I had the same operation twice but just the one scar and in the first 3 months I periodically got lots of little bumps/lumps and pimple style things around the scar but they eased up after that time frame and by about the 10 month mark most of the hard tissue in the scar had smoothed out, and now at 14months all of that has completly gone..long slow process but it did finally... GENTLY massage the "bumps" - helps them heal is what my doc & hubby say. Also the suggestions to move your head around like Elaine said- DONT overdo it - gently! - can improve mobility sooner.

... at a teaching hospital as well...he averages 8 thyroids a week...and I was very happy with him. All stitches are internal and although I still have some swelling around the incision, I think it looks pretty darn good. Sounds like you have found a fantastic doctor. You are very fortunate. ... Hubby went with me - just in case - we are SO relieved!!
Doc had to take a parathyroid out that the thyroid was wrapped around. I still have 3.
He doesn't need to see me unless other problems. My neck is healing - a couple of "bumps" from surgery - he says to massage them - gets the blood flowing and that helps... (6 replies)
