... I didn't gain weight---I was kept hyper/tsh suppressed for thyroid cancer for a while. I also maintained my exercise level, and ate ok---stayed the same before and after. You don't want to be too hyper---you may get very hungry from it (causing weight gain)---but if you have a doctor that's willing to work with you to find your best level, you should be fine. ... fogged. i feel like i am on an island by myself. so, i forgot to mention i had total thyroidectomy. symptoms are back full steam ahead. so tired again. this weight issue is driving me nuts ... and i think think i offended the endo when i was trying to tell her how i felt. freezing, tired, fat, etc. ... ... You won't have weight gain as long as your dose of thyroid hormone is optimal for you. People who gain a lot of weight have doctors who are too stingy with the thyroid hormone. Educate yourself so that you'll get the right kind of treatment, the only kind you deserve. ... (3 replies)

... Hi Buffolonygal, I had MANY issues with my thyroid for many years before my surgery. The worst, of course, was the choking feeling that I had. I could not sleep well because I could not breathe.
