Can TMJ cause ear to ache and also loss of hearing, especially on left side? Last year I saw an ENt because my left ear felt plugged all the time & I was having trouble hearing. I thought sure he would find fluid & would put tubes in to drain it. Surprisingly, no fluid & hearing test showed hearing loss, significantly more so in the left ear. No infections. Now, over past month, I get an aching in that same ear, intermittent...not every day & not all day on days I have it. When the aching started, I saw my pcp & he could not see any signs of ear infections. Also, last year when had hearing checked by ENT doctor, he ordered an MRI to rule out a tumor. The ear ache is painful, ibuprofen helps but hate to keep taking it because of an ulcer I had in the past. I do find myself clenching & grinding my teeth so much, day & night! My questions; can TMJ be the problem? Will ache clear up on its own? Had routine panoramic X-ray at last dentist visit but he didn't say anything showed up on it. I am frustrated trying to figure it out. The only other thing is, I have had neck pain from bone spur & herniated disc in my cervical spine but didn't think it could be causing this ache around my ear. Any ideas or advice?

Potentially - you should see a specialist and get an MRI of your TMJ joint - if you clench or grind you should also be wearing a night gaurd - it doesn't prevent clenching or grinding but takes some of the impact off your teeth and jaw.
