... Thanks PWC, I appreciate your feedback. I should have clarified that it is my wife who is pregnant and I'm one of those unfortunate 20% of men with this disorder. The kid on the way thing was meant to clarify that it's now necessary for me to conserve our financial resources. I have tried multiple splint therapy believe me. The only maxiofascial specialist in our area... (17 replies)
... hi marbelmo, i know what you mean about these dr.'s that refuse to order tests because they feel they know all they need to know about your anatomy just from a hands on exam. that may well be the case - for them. i (and maybe you too) want to be as knowledgeable as possible about the condition and need to SEE what is going on. i needed to read the mri's myself, to look... ... Christa, If you've tried everything else, it's probably best. pwc is right though. Be as informed as you can be. And, I do think the suturing of the discs is a bad idea. I had this surgery so long ago, I can't remember how long I couldn't chew. But, you should be okay by your wedding. Good luck and congratulations. I hope everything goes well for you. ... Thanks PWC. I will ask him your other questions. My regular TMJ dentist has molds of my teeth (at least I hope he still has them, they are over one year old). Also, yes I will need to use the therabite. I went to 20 physical therapy sessions last year. The surgeon said he might send me to 1-2 sessions, but since I had so many visits last year, I already know what to do.... (4 replies)
... I was wondering what some of yalls thoughts were on artroscopic laser surgery on the tmj. I have already had a diagnostic arthroscopy and the surgeon was unable to fix it while in there and said he would need the help of lasers because the cartlidge was too damaged. ... (1 replies)
... i did not have arthrocentesis. i pursued splint therapy for 4 months b/4 the arthroscopy. i also had trigger point injections and cortisone injections into the jaw joint. i was on stabilzation splint(s) and repositioning splint(s) (sorry, i don't remember all the names). my treatment team consisted of my general dentist, my omf, and my tmj/myofascial specialist. my... ... I have had TMJ for about 2 1/2 years now. I had an arthroscopy about 1 1/2 years ago and that didn't help. I wore a splint for a year and that didn't help. I have NO idea what to do now! I can't even go to the doctor who deals with the TMJ cause it's a 9 1/2 hour drive. What should I do? Angela (2 replies)
... They sure give you a lot to think about. Now I just wonder. I will talk to the different dentist and confer with my personal dentist and see what he thinks. I trust him alot. He is the first dentist I let do thousands of dollars worth of work on my mouth so far. I need two small replacement fillings and a cleaning and I am done till I decide what to do. He does not have to accept BCBS ...they just want verification that he treats tmj and is trained to do so... ... (22 replies)

... I am "one" of those patients with serious complications. Your statement of "no need to worry" definitely would not apply to me. After having three surgeries, puking headaches to the point of vomiting for six hours at a time. Excessive weight loss(30lbs) due to not being able to chew. Hearing loss in the right ear, a bite that is so far off, not to mention an opening of 10mm.... (18 replies)
