... r is the one that has been giving me trouble for about 15 months. It started when I noticed my bite being off. I was under a lot of stress last year, and I was clenching during the day. I was clenching on pencils and wood chips. I also taught for 8 years, and I have loud voice. ... (7 replies)
... The orthotic took a little getting used to. I have it for about a month. For the first three weeks I took it out when I ate, but my dentist suggested I keep it in while eating since I had terrible headaches. That has really helped my headaches since I started wearing it all the time. I think eating without it was messing up any progress I was making. It is sort of like a... (4 replies)
... Hey Flatfour - I had a quick question about your lower orthotic. how are you finding it affecting your quality of life? Was it difficult to transition to wearing it? Is it like braces? If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost to get it done? Also, do you still have to wear a nightguard if you have this orthotic? (4 replies)

... With TMJD, I think it is actually best to sleep on your back. I've been told that sleeping on my stomach was actually the worst position. I wear an acrylic lower mandibular repositioning splint. I had one that I wore for years from my dentist for the clenching/grinding, but later found out it actually contributed to my TMJD. The lower mandibular repositioning splint is... (7 replies)

Eventually, I'll have lower braces as well and I'll be splint free at night. I've slept with some kind of bruxism splint for about 11 years now so that will be a huge adjustment. ... (8 replies)
... How do you keep your bite stable after treatment with braces? I know that you need to wear retainers at night to keep the teeth in place. What if you are grinding/clenching your teeth? How do you wear a nightguard and a retainer at the same time? I am asking this question, because I have finished treatment with braces, but my bite is not 100%. I was a very difficult case.... ... I went to see Dr. Syrop for his opinion, treatment with him would not be doable due to the distance. That said he examined my MRI's and felt that they looked normal - as in the joints themselves. He said many people have displaced discs with NO symptoms so that in and of itself means nothing. He saw no signs of arthritis etc. It was his opinion that the tooth that bothers... (5 replies)
... Chiros ARE great - I have had internal massage of my masseter muscles etc - it is painful at first but then starts to feel better. BUT it does not actually change the condition. A chiro can't shift your jaw back into place or change the position of the discs. They have helped me with my neck and back because my jaw affects those areas tho. (15 replies)
... Believe it or not try a chiropractor. I just talked to a co-worker who has the same problem with clenching her teeth/TMJ. She said her chiropractor slipped on gloves and went inside her mouth and put pressure/manipulated points in her jaw. She said it was painful at first but was much better after treatment. I know it sounds crazy, she thought it was crazy too, but it... (15 replies)

My ortho said it would help with the clenching but I also wake up in the morning with the same jaw/facial pain that I had before. But I don't see how it could hurt since it acts like a nightguard. The only time I can say it helps is during the day, before the invisalign I... (4 replies)
