... Hi Friends, Does anyone know how to interpret the many sounds the tmj joint can make. Sometimes it's a loud "firecracker" popping.... - other times a crack (a la chrio adjustment).... and other times a clunk -- usually with associated deviation to one side. I also wondered if certain noises are associated more with pain symptoms. Just thought I'd throw this question... (14 replies)

... Crepatis (sp?) - that's what is is called - like snap, crackle, pop cereal. Other joints can get it as well - its like elastic or a rubber band that has dried out - the cartilldge is being pulled or stretched in and around the joint but its stiff - probably a bit worn out as well - in some cases its due to be over worked but also it can be that it has been underworked as well... ... Hi to all! I know this must sound really bizzare to a lot of you - but it's what I'm experiencing. It's almost as though my instincts are telling me to stretch the ligament in order to "relocate" something (the disc?). If I resist, it feels like the muscles are "clamping" down on my jaw...very painful - and then the headaches escalate. Would be interested to know if this... (3 replies)

... dear babygrant, I wish I could offer you wonderful advice and great news, but i have been where you are at... I am cally22, and I have had tmj for about 5 years and I am only 18....This road that i have been on has definitely been a truly hard one.
