This is to relieve the load on the TM joint to cause less muscle activity. Severe cases may need a liquid Avoid hard foods like French bread or bagels. Avoid chewy foods like steak or candy.... ... As for the Aleve, I've never tried that but I've heard others say that it helps some. When things get bad, my doctor gave me 875mg. tabs of Naprosyn to take. Taking those really kills your stomach. It doesn't matter if I take them with food, they still upset it. ... (3 replies)
... Hi Nicole & Welcome! No, what your doctor did was NOT enough. You need to see a QUALIFIED TMJ dentist/specialist. Some of the tests that can be done to form a proper/correct diagnosis of TMJ are: Tomograms, Panoramic X-rays, MRI, Joint Vibration Analysis, CT Scan. As for what may help with the pain (I took Naprosyn at one point when my doctor DIDN'T know what was wrong... (5 replies)

I have had the current joint in for 5 1/2 years and have just recently started experiencing new pain that is making me fear this joint is failing.
