... Joint replacement is major surgery an should be done only as a last resort. I don't know what your history is or what other diagnostic tests you have had but you should fully explore all options before considering total joint replacement especially since you are still young. And I am surprise they would consider doing it now because your bones are probably still growing.

I have had both sides replaced and am currently waiting for my second implant for my right side. The joint was infected and removed 9 months after implantation. ( January 2014). My new joint is currently being made by TMJ concepts and I hope to have surgery next month (16 replies)

... Yes, I had an infection that began to develop within a few days following my surgery in August of 2013. I had extreme pain and a huge knot developed. Seven days after the surgery the incision area opened up and began draining. Concepts did review a recent CT scan and states the prostheses is mal-positioned. (8 replies)

I am so sorry you are having a difficult time with your last surgery. Like you, my recovery since my August 2013 surgery has not been easy. My new prostheses is already mal-positioned and the left mandibular component is lower on the mandible than its intended design position and the condylar head is not contacting the central area of the fossa bearing as intended...
