Hi Leah17,
Sorry to hear what your going through...hope my story will help. I'm 56 yo and was experiencing postmenopausal bleeding, very light, off & on for 2 + years. My gyn told me that any bleeding after menopause is abnormal & needs to be evaluated. So, here's what I ended up going through. I had a transvaginal ultrasound that showed a slightly thickened endometrial wall so I had an endometrial biopsy with results showing simple hyperplasia (hyperplasia is an overgrowth of tissue and simple hyperplasia is the better of the 4 types that you can have). After the endometrial biopsy, my gyn put me on a 3 week course of progesterone with the intent of bringing on my period so the endometrial lining would shed. Had a follow up transvaginal ultra sound 3 months later with no change in the endometrial lining but there was a suspicious mass/polyp? so my gyn decided to do a hysteroscopy & D & C. This procedure is done under general anesthesia & they insert a scope and is able to see the inside of the uterus on a screen. During this time, she scraped the lining. She saw a huge polyp and removed as much of it as she could because she said it was really imbedded in the uterus. She had told me that uterine polyps are usually benign but can cause irregular bleeding. All pathology was benign, thank goodness. It's been 3 1/2 months since the procedure and so far no further bleeding. So, I wouldn't get too worked up over this yet...many women experience this type of problem and most end up being fine. Hope this helps and let me know how things turn out.
