I dont know if this will help you; but Ive gone thru EXACTLY what you are talking about....
Because I had Novasure, an ablation procedure, and becasue I too, am 42 and have never given birth- I also have a Stenotic Cervix....when I started having insane pain and lots of bleeding, a pelvic ultrasound was ordered. This showed "Something" on my film...

4 attempts at a biopsy in the office and one attempt at a Hystersonogram with saline later, ALL OF THEM FAILED and I was miserable. I also have Multiple Sclerosis, so my pain threshold, and nerve receptors are much lower then the average person. Needless to say "something" was inside me, and no one could tell me what it was. I changed GYNs, was also prescribed cytotec to take the night before and was taken to the outpatient short procedure at the hospital...

Let me tell you, I was terrified of the cytotec! It was NOTHING! Half an hour after I inserted it, I felt some minimal cramping...but nothing that was bad. No bleeding, either. I slept well, with a couple of tylenol PMs to help.

The procedure went like clockwork.....no pain beyond minimal discomfort. The doctor was able to do what he set out to do, due to the cytotec making my cervix softer...

Turns out I have a Fibroid. Its not a polyp like they suggested, its also benign - no big deal; however since I already went thru a tubal ligation and ablation to stop the bleeding, the ablation didnt work by the way- Im now facing either "live with the bad pain and bleeding" or Hysterectomy. My new doctor is certain that a hysterectomy would be easier on me, long run, thus removing the cyst at the same time.....and Im starting to think he is right! Its been almost a year of every other month crying and in and out of the gyn's office...however, timing is everything and for me to take 5 weeks off for recovery, its going to have to wait till next spring. My job wont allow me to take off sooner...

Sometimes you just have to find the right doctor...but for what its worth- do the cytotec. Youll survive and the pain will be so much lessened when the doctor does the procedure. Dont be scared- you will survive this. I just hope your results are good....let us know?
Nikki
