First off ... thank you for writing/expressing "just wanted you to know you are not alone" ... that really is meaningful and significant. Suffering like we have for so long is a rite of passage that is unique and powerful - piercing and lonely. So, just to hear you identify is warming. Thanks: SO - As far as things I have learned in my lifetime of academic research on things that help GERD - LPR - SOB - Heart Burn. Here's some of my regiment that I continue to execute because it actually works. Nothing would make me more insane than someone saying "Have you tried lavender oil?" Or ... "Try putting sodium bicarbonate in your water" (It's actually good for general health, but not for severe cases like ours) So here goes my list: Sorry for the length = Well, first off ... Thank you for allowing me to pontificate and rant! Lol ... it's been a long 30 years of instability coupled with counterbalance. The internet is fantastic for gaining insight BUT the sheer volume of information and opinions can be misleading and rather ambiguous. Like I said above, I've been grappling with GERD - LPR - SOB - Suffocation - acid reflux since I was very little. In that time I've learned a few "tricks" that certainly won't cure a LES problem (GERD, REFLUX, LPR, SOB) ... but they without doubt curb the inevitable weakening of the LES and make our lives a bit easier.

[B]First[/B] - The LES functions best (even when it's broken) when it is hydrated. In order to hydrate the LES you must hydrate all the organs in the system. Here's what I've been doing for multiple years with very good results. First thing when I wake up = I keep two 32 ounce bottles of alkaline water directly next to the bed. By alkaline I mean water that holds a PH of 9.2 or better. This can be achieved by using alkaline drops in the water (Alkaline drops are cheap and can be bought at local health stores - also - google alkaline water ... there's many ways to achieve 9.2 PH water) - I know it's gross but ... drink the first 32 ounce bottle ... then wait about 10 or so minutes then drink the second. This 64 ounces of alkaline water sets the stage for body to hydrate the LES. Wait at least 20 minutes before taking any PPI's or H2 blockers, let the water absorb into the body first. You will absolutely feel a difference in digestion and reflux. Not a cure, but a good deterrent.
Here’s one that works but very rare to see.

[B]Second[/B] - Branch Chain Amino Acids. You can find BCAA’s at any GNC or health food store (even the grocery store now, supplement aisle) Take BCAA’s after breakfast (about 20-30 minutes) and the difference in digestion is pretty remarkable. Why? That really is an entire other post in itself … but BCAA’s are the building blocks of the body focusing especially on protein digestion, which is GERD’s - LPR’s - Acid Reflux’s greatest obstacle. Protein (animal especially) takes a TON of energy to digest. For instance … Fat takes the least amount of energy to digest (lets say olive oil) … carbohydrates (lets say brown rice) more energy than fat but less than protein to digest, but protein … protein takes so much energy to digest it looks like this in a math equation. If you eat 100 protein calories (not grams but calories) your body will burn roughly 25% of those calories JUST in the digestion process! Meaning … your Resting Metabolic Rate goes much higher when you eat protein. So … as anyone who suffers from LPR - GERD - SOB - Acid Refluc because of the two, digesting protein is VERY very hard. BUT, if your body houses Branch Chain Amino Acids … your body will digest protein roughly 60% more efficiently. Causing less reflux causing less symptoms. You can get BCAA’s at your local health food store or online.
[B]Third[/B] - Magnesium Powder (Calm Magnesium is fine), nascent iodine, Sam-E, Vitamin C (whole juiced lemon) and GABA. This combination of supplements (natural supplements) was not originally, but formally introduced to the U.S. public by Dr. Sircus. The combination of these supplements is absolutely top grade on fighting infections before they happen, like bronchitis, pneumonia, chest infections, sinus infections, especially throat infections. GERD - REFLUX - LPR - is doing it’s best to cause infections in our anatomies … acidic contents have one goal, to erode and cause infection. This protocol protects the body from infection. I know this because once I started using it I saw a MAJOR difference in my capacity to offset the detrimental effects of displaced acid within two days. So, I went from 26 years of constant infections to none. Again, not a cure BUT a great deterrent. I've been doing this now for years and I have not had one instance of pneumonia, bronchitis,chest infection, sinus infection … etc etc etc. Sam-E is expensive .. but it really is worth it.

[B]Fourth[/B] - Baby Deer Antler Extract. This product is pretty expensive, depending on the brand you get which is important, it will cost about $100 a month. This is incredibly worth it if you have the money, but if you are short on cash, I would go with options one two or three. If perhaps you can afford one Hundred dollars a month on baby dear antler extract, here is what the benefits are for those of us who have GERD - LPR - REFLUX. During the course of our lives when we have GERD, gastric contents flowing up the esophagus into our throat, Lungs, Sinuses, ears, etc etc etc … the damage that is done to the lining of the throat - lungs - sinuses - ears - esophagus - LES is apparently irreversible. But that damage that is done with acid from the stomach to those parts of the body is not irreversible. A supplement like a baby deer antler extract (a very high good-quality) produces growth hormone in the brain, and growth hormone is exceptionally good at healing scar tissue. For instance, professional football players, when they break an arm or leg, or tare a tendon or muscle, the first thing that they do is take the highest quality baby deer antler extract in order to heal very quickly the damage done. I could talk blue in the face about the qualities of a baby deer answer extract, but I would suggest looking up the research on the subject. Either way, my point is… healing the scar tissue created in the esophagus, throat, sinuses, stomach lining … etc etc etc … it Is definitely not a bad idea. Baby deer antler extract is incredible at promoting growth hormone in the brain triggering the body to heal itself literally from the inside out. I know this because I had an endoscopy … they informed me I had Barretts Esophagus and Hiatal Hernia … Next endoscopy … After 6 month of baby deer antler extract entire sections of the Barrett's esophagus had dissipated, and the hernia had shrunk. Besides that, Random scar tissue on my skin healed, scars I had since I was a kid. I was amazed that the response from this supplement. Reading further, this is a supplement that all the Hollywood stars inject… they all inject growth hormone, not baby deer antler extract, but actual growth hormone to heal the aging process and reveal youth. It's quite an incredible supplement.

[B] Fifth[/B] - Exercise THROUGH the acid, shortness of breath, stomach pain, reflux, exhaustion, sore throat, chest pain, etc etc etc … This definitely sounds counterintuitive. Most people when experiencing pain or uncomforted want to rest. BUT, rest with GERD is a double edged sword. When your body rests, your organs do too … meaning when you rest (you’ve probably felt this) you feel worse. It’s like “How can that be? I just rested and now I feel worse?” Well … when you rest, your LES valve relaxes as well, allowing MORE acidic stomach contents to come barreling up your esophagus invading your anatomy like a Trojan Horse. If you PUSH through the pain lets say by using an elipticycle, lifting weights, hiking, walking briskly, doing pushups, whatever … you’ll pass a tipping point where you feel better. It won’t last all day, but at least you’ll get a solid few hours of solace instead of resting and feeling the full brunt of the pain. I personally lift weights, I think because you don’t have to bounce up and down, anything that bounces up and down (Like running) will immediately make me sick and suffocate.

[B]Sixth[/B] - Digestive enzymes and lots of them. I take digestive enzymes, pancreatic enzymes and specially designed digestive enzymes for protein and fat. One company is called Life Extension … awesome company. I have gone with and without digestive enzymes and the difference is definitely something you can feel. So I would google or try “Now (Now is the company) Super Enzymes” and “Life Extension Digestive Enzymes” … both great companies. They really do help.

[B]Seventh[/B] - I would actually NEVER suggest this BUT I’m going to … just because they have helped me greatly. Benzodiazepines .. like ClonazaPAM or Xanax can be very useful IF you don’t have an addictive personality. I used (past tense) these to get to sleep at night. Prior to these little calming pills, I was so anxious before sleep because well, a few things … first, my day probably sucked and I didn't get done what I wanted to. Second, sleeping (lying horizontal) can be VERY bad for GERD and could suffocate me in my sleep very easily, leaving me panicked. So … I would stress out and NOT sleep. This medication allowed me to sleep through the night. And I strongly agree that sleep is extremely important. I don’t advocate using strong anti anxiety medication BUT if you’re NOT sleeping it could be the lessor of two evils.

[B]Eighth[/B] - This is a huge subject with intense research. Fasting. Fasting with lets say, lemon water and maple syrup for a prolonged period of time. Not only can fasting heal some of the erosion caused by this horrible disease, but fasting can clean the blood, release a TON of toxins and best of all … it is the best diagnostic tool available to determine wether or not you have GERD or something like asthma. With Asthma, you would still have labored breathing while fasting, but if your labored breathing is caused by GERD, your shortness of breath will dissipate allowing you to know what the exact cause is. It’s very hard, but very very worth it. I would suggest reading a LOT about it. It’s a huge subject.
