Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

Acid Reflux / GERD Board Index

I am a 56 year old male. 2 years ago I was having gallbladder problems. Part of the medical investigation was an upper endoscopy. At that time I was diagnosed with GERD and Barrett's esophagus without dysplasia. I was prescribed a PPI and told to get re-checked in a year. About a year ago I had the re-check endoscopy and they could not find any evidence of Barrett's. I was told sometimes the original biopsy removes the effected area. I was told to get a re-check in 7 years.

I had my gallbladder removed approx. 18 months ago. And I haven't felt normal since. I have sharp pains in the stomach and sides. And intense stomach gurgling. For the past 9 months I have had chest and upper back pain. The pain feels deep and not a muscle issue. The pain sometimes run down my right arm and into my shoulder blades. I have had a battery of tests / CT scans and nothing has been found. My cardiologist tells me there is nothing wrong with my heart.

About 2 months ago the chest and upper back pain have increased in frequency and intensity. There are times it feels very intense. I describe the pain as sharp and aching. About one month ago I began getting severely nauseated and vomit at least a couple times a week. Sometimes it is after I eat. Sometimes it is on an empty stomach. On one occasion the vomit had a yellowish appearance which I believe was bile.

I closely watch what I eat and drink. I eat a low fat bland diet. I do not drink alcohol, smoke or do anything that could be considered destructive. I exercise when I feel well enough. I also have nasal drip with a salty, saline type of taste. I also feel bloated and pressure in my chest and stomach. I often feel like I need to belch but I am unable to.

I am sure this is GI related. I am assuming it is GERD. I don't understand why my symptoms are worsening. I eat the exact same things I have always eaten. Which is a GERD approved diet. I feel awful every day and it is very difficult to stay positive. I live in an area that has a rapidly expanding population and very few doctors. My GI doctor is booked out 9 months in advance. So I made an appointment with a GI doctor that is 100 miles away. The appointment is in 2 weeks.

Are there any tips for me to help control my nausea and other symptoms? The pain I can take. But the nausea is the worst. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have tried a lot of the home remedies with no success.
