I have been diagnosed with GERD a couple years ago. I've taken three different perscription type PPIs to try to find one that works. I do have to say I think Nexium was the best. Right now I am on Protonix, but take it on an as need basis. One symptom that still puzzles me is this ocasional feeling I get that is so severe it buckles me over. It is a sharp pain in my back between the shoulder blades. Like somebody is taking a vice grip to my shoulder baldes and squeezing them together. It's usually accompanied by burping. Which at times releives it. Most of the time this happen after a meal (like an hour after)Sometimes these episodes last for longer than an hour. The pain starts in my upper stomach then radiates to the back shoulder blades. If had every test under the sun, and they say it is GERD. Is this the type of feeling you get in your back. I'm curious to see what your doc says about your symptoms. Thanks.

For me, it's more of a pinching/stabbing pain. Sometimes I even feel it as I'm swallowing (but not when I swallow food or drinks). At first it didn't seem to be associated with my throat, which is why he thought it may be my gallbladder, but as my symptoms change and get worse it seems as though it is associated with my throat. The lump in my throat feeling hasn't been as bad as normal today. I've been drinking nothing but water and watching what I eat. I did have a tiny bit of spaghetti sauce with my lunch today and my throat burned on and off afterward. I haven't had that awful taste in my mouth for 2 days now, which is a relief in itself. God,that's horrible.
