Welcome gentille57. There are plenty of us suffering. Thanks for your imput. It can be debillitating that is for sure. I am really going through the wringer with the mucus thing. I just can't get it all cleared up. I don't know if this will go on forever or not. But I am going to get the endoscopy done and all the tests. I can't get in until January. I am trying not to panic. Sometimes I feel like it effects my breathing. The constant clearing is annoying me and my husband. I am about ready to sleep in another room.

So I will try any homopathic remedies I can. If you know of any please post them. Thanks! I am trying to de yeast my body and I take probiotics as well.

I know a lot of people use licorice root and it seems to help. It comes in a liquid, I believe. shouldnt' be too hard to get. I am unable to take it because of interstitial cystitis/chronic inflammation of urinary tract. Everything I eat or drink can make me feel like I have a nasty bladder infection, so I am limited. One thing that sometimes helps me is nordic naturals jr. 3-6-9. It is liquid fish oil for kids. Sometimes ultra omegas by country life help; be careful, if your reflux is bad, puncture the gel cap and squirt it out into water rather than swallowing it Could be painful to get down even though it's not that big. I've had reflux flare for hours just from swallowing something like that when my chest is tight. The omega does not taste great but I am used to it. The nordic is lemon flavored; I thought the citrus would bother my stomach but it hasn't. Maybe try small amounts at first and see how your stomach takes it.
I know there are other natural healers but I'm not sure what they are; I will let you know if I find out
I am fortunate not to have had as much of the mucous, but when my reflux is bad, I literally get a full blown head cold. It irritates my throat and mucous membranes and I get very congested, nasal drip, the works. sheesh

I have a question...does alfredo sauce cause reflux to act up or the mucus to go crazy? I made the mistake of having salad with Italian oil dressing and some alfredo with white sauce. It is a few hours later and my mucus production is OUT OF CONTROL!! Eeh gads! Learning this special diet is driving me crazy. Any thoughts? Thanks!

The sauce could very well have made your LPR go whacko but the alfredo will do a number on you too. Some days just lettuce alone will choke me to death! It is "very" frustrating to first off try and follow the rules and diet but when you can get away with it one time and not the next is the worst. I have really keep a food journal for months and I still can't figure out any rhyme or reason why my LPR goes out of control. Sure, there are a few things that I do eat and know I will get symptoms of uncontrolable coughing and drowning in mucus. Usually, the good things! Then one the other hand, I can drink Coke all day long and feel great. Never has bothered me. The Starbucks is a different story and I'm addicted to the stuff. My Dr. say's to eat what I want and go from there as we are all different. Personally, I will suffer a little misery for chocolate! Good Luck.

Thanks Char! I appreciate you writing back to me. I am afraid my cheating has cost me dearly. It is nearly 2 am and I am not going to bed yet. I have mucus just going like crazy. The alfredo, salad with dressing and a little tiny bit of white chocolate cheesecake just has created this monster for hours. I am seeing that I have to get really strict again tomorrow. :(
My poor daughter came over tonight and she is only 19 and showing the same pattern as me. She said she has had a whole bottle of pepto bismo over the last couple of days. I feel so bad if she ends up with these problems. Her older sister, my other daughter has the same problem too.
Well, you could have chatted with me at 2 am.......I had the same problem. Ate a McDonald breakfast yesterday morn and had soooo much mucus. Was trying to clean house good after all the holidays and that only made it worse. Bending and lifting stuff, like scrub the floors and carpet. I woke up this morn with horrible headache and sinus pressure. Last night, I finally just had to do saline rinses over and over to try and get all the thick mucus out. A bit hoarse today and sure all the hacking, clearing my throat stuff is the cause. Oh! I had bad heartburn on top of all that and not a thing in the house to use except baking soda. Bet I hit that drug store early this morn and stock up.

Everyone try and have a great day. New Year and maybe the one we all get well!

Char
Hi Judy! Ya I don't think that Prilosec works for everyone. Sometimes I really think the side effects are worse than what is actually going on. I just can't handle it. I have the mucus and I found it odd that the nurse at the Endoscopy place said she had never heard of mucus being a symptom of acid reflux. Isn't that crazy?

Hi T,
That is, indeed, strange. I went to see an ENT because of a constant, annoying, post nasal drip. When I told the ENT that I had this annoying mucous, she immediately said, "You most likely have esophageal reflux." I had never heard of it. She told me that esophageal reflux is one of the most common complaints she sees in her office. Apparently, esophageal reflux is not always accompanied by a 'heartburn' burning sensation. She said that the body produces the mucous to protect the esophagus from the acid.

If they can cure the reflux, the mucous will go away. She also told me that sometimes it takes a while to try various pills to rid the acid. She said that diet is also key. I do find a relation to what I eat. And I think coffee is the worst offender...damn!
I think I'll try Nexium next.
Judy
I am ready to try the apple cidar vinegar in water faithfully now. Even though I got scoped on Friday and the doctor found nothing. I still have the reflux. I have been so careful for 3 weeks now. Tonight it has flared up. I can just feel a warm, uncomfortable feeling in my sternum area. It isn't always constant. But that is where I feel it , when I feel it. The mucus isn't too bad today. Heck one day its mucus, the next it's some burning but not much mucus. This gets weary doesn't it??:(
Hi,
I hope this reply is not too long winded for you, but to give you some background. I grew up with Bushmen (learned a lot from them on survival) and have some medical training and as a result started researching stuff and healing myself (not much loved by doctors). I once had acid reflux so bad that sometimes at night, acid would shoot up into my throat suffocating me. I started doing research and healed myself within 5 to 6 weeks. It may or may not work for everybody but here it is. Buy pure untreated, unheated honey from a health shop. If it is the absolute natural untampered with product and it will be opaque (not clear). Take 5ml (one teaspoon) three times a day before meals and minimize your intake of refined starches (white bread). As far as excess mucus is concerned have yourself tested for lactose intolerance. This is not thumb sucking because it worked for myself and some people I recommended it to. If it works for you, thank the wisdom of the ancient, now extinct Bushmen tribes.

Hello JakeV,
You are a very interesting person and I believe in natural things to heal our bodies--God put everything here to help us--it's man that has messed it up. I always buy honey that way and you've reminded me of something my Mom use to do. She was into healthy ways of fixing things and most of them worked. I will try your honey thing. I remember a remedy that my grandparents told my Mom for bad coughs. Honey, lemon and whiskey--my Mom and Dad didn't drink but we always had that around. When my son was little--he loved it so much that he use to fake coughing so that he could have the homemade cough syrup;) I'm Lactose Intolerant since I was a baby. Hope you don't mind that I cut-in but "thank you" to you and the Bushmen tribes:) precious49 God Bless You and Yours Today and EveryDay:angel:
I had two great days in a row without mucus or reflux. Then I did something stupid and had a small mocha late afternoon yesterday and a small portion of spagetti last night. Today I am paying for it. The mucus back! I have a sore area in the sternum and my chest is tender. It felt tight like anxiety was kicking in. Ugh! I hate that panic and anxiety. Is this all hooked together or something. This bland diet is gonna be tough. But I see what happens if I go off of it. At least right now.
