Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

Acid Reflux / GERD Board Index

It's been a couple of months since I posted here. I finally had my upper endoscopy today. The results were:

1. Diminutive nodule proximal to the esophageal inlet opposite the right arytenoid.
2. Normal esophagus
3. Gastric mucosal abnormality characterized by erythema. Biopsied.
4. Normal examined duodenum

Iím really concerned about #1 and #3. With regard to #1, I'll go post that over on the E.N.T board since my doc told me I will need to see one as this is not in his area of expertise.

As for #3, the doctor didnít seem concerned. He said to call him in a week for the biopsy results but didnít bother telling me much of anything about it. He went on as if everything was fine but now I have to sweat out the next week waiting for the results. I asked about Barretís and he said my esophagus is fine. There was no mention of a hiatal hernia so is it safe to assume that I donít have one or will they not know until the biopsy results come back? I forgot to ask him about that b/c I was so out of it when talking to him.

Also, he prescribed Nexium and wants me to take it for 3-4 months. He said 50% of people with GERD show a normal esophagus and he wants me to take this to see if my symptoms go away. A friend of mine who is a health nut said the best thing I can do is take Braggs Apple Cider vinegar for acid reflux and donít bother with the Nexium. I told the doc this and his response was ďNo, it wonít work, take the Nexium.Ē

Aside from that can someone please tell me if it is OK to take Maalox after having an EGD? I am belching and have stomach cramps and bloating. What is really bothering me are the striking pains that keep coming next to my heart. I already had a dull pain in my chest near my heart that hasn't bothered me too much for the last few weeks but today after having the EGD, it's much worse. I had a chest x-ray and cardio ultrasound early last year that came back normal. I've had 2 EKG's in the last 3 months that were normal. So, I'm thinking the chest-pain must be gas related as opposed to a heart attack or something.
