Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

Acid Reflux / GERD Board Index

I'm currently taking pills for acid reflux...originally I went to the doctor about a reoccurring sore throat and, after having a look, he said that it was from acid reflux. Just wondering, can acid reflux cause chest pains as well? I've been having this constant ache-like pain in my chest for a while's not burny or sharp though, like I would expect it would be if it were caused by acid reflux. It helps most when I take deep breathes. Has anyone else experienced this kind of pain?

Hi Amy:

Chest pains can be due to reflux/heartburn irritating some nerve. Chest pains can also be due to anxiety, asthma (if you are having trouble breathing) or even your heart. I was once told that a PPI can also cause pain right where the esophagus meets the stomach. Best thing to do is to check back with your doctor or doctor's nurse to see if there is anything they want to do, test wise, to rule out other problems and for your peace of mind.

Hope you feel better soon.
