Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

Acid Reflux / GERD Board Index

Everything I eat is causing me horrible pain. Perhaps I have a tumor. I've never heard of GERD causing pain through to the back and or difficulty swallowing. Have any of you????
GERD does cause trouble swallowing in the esophagus and may also cause such in the throat (LPR). Dysphagia (trouble swallowing) is a common symtom of even heartburn. I have had it (and so have the others).

As far as the pain goes, remember the stomach and esohpagus are sort of towards the back of our bodies and pain can be "refered" - that is you can feel it even away from the place in the body where it is originating from.
Gerd can most certainly cause difficulty swallowing. When acid reflux reaches the throat, it causes the muscles in the throat to tighten up, thus making swallowing difficult. The stress associated with this only adds to the muscle tension in the throat and makes it worse.
Dee...I have had Gerd for about 25 years now. I never had the throat part of it but sometimes my sinuses get bad and that doesn't help matters. GERD is all the symptoms you mentioned and more. I got those back attacks many years ago after my gall bladder was removed and they needed to clean out my bile ducts, which was loaded with stones and sludge. I also have bile reflux and I have had Barretts for about 8 years now. The Barretts is not supposed to hurt. It's a silent disease and you don't know you have it without having an endo done. You really need to get an appt. for an endo, even if you have to wait. just to see whats going on done there. I also have a HH and that does bother me at times. I have been on a PPI for 25 years now and I still suffer. Maybe your regular GP can help you while you wait for your endo appt. Any questions just ask as I feel like I am an expect on GERD and reflux symptoms. Good luck and feel better Linda

Hi Linda:

Well, my big problem is how to treat this. I cannot take PPI or H2 because I get heart arrhythmia's and bleeding problems some of the listed severe side effects. Just recently discovered. I have difficulty at the end of my esophagus right before food passes into the stomach. Sores form there or what feels like sores. I get really bad attack pain epigastric like so sore it take s days of recovery. Protonix really helped until I started bleeding and got a fast heart rate of 150 and bp of 160/129 after using only for 4 days. Prilosec causes gallbladder pain and tagamet bleeding and heart issues. I take no other meds either.

The pain between my shoulders is horrible sometimes. Today I ate a no no food and I am suffering. I know what a dummy I am. I lost my professional job in 2009 and was unemployed for a whole year this brought my GERD out of remission. I am back working again with very good insurance, but I am suffering so much not being able to treat this properly.

Is this back pain between the shoulders GERD??

PS also when I eat my pulse goes a pounding right where I hurt. It's terrible.

Thanks
