Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

Acid Reflux / GERD Board Index

I started getting ill in 2009. I have FMS, GERD and gallbladder issues. Just this year I kept getting a pain on my right side at my back. All the symptoms started to run together. I've noticed my GERD had returned and was burning my throat although preoccupied with this pain in my back across my right side. I thought it was Gallbladder. My ribs were aching so bad all I wanted to do was try to get rid of this pain.

Now I have trouble swallowing I mean with certain foods and pills tend to stick in my esophagus and at the end of my esophagus on the right side there is a sore area and it feels raw inside. I get pain when food pass by it. I felt this pain over year ago but it went away with tagament and prilosec and other changes. I also had a similar thing in 2010 March on my left side like a sore that woke me at night. I thought ulcers. I still believe I've developed ulcers from excessive acid. I've been treating my new problem and it seems to have alleviated a lot but still remain and I cannot sleep no more than 4 hours before the pain wakes me its like a internal sore that is drying up. You know how a sore on the outside pulls and feels sore as it is scabbing. Only this is internal. I am taking prilosec again and other things aloe juice etc.,

I am more concerned now, because I am having all this difficulty swallowing certain things mainly sticky foods and capsules. Seems like everything else goes down.

I am trying to get a appointment with a GI, but it will be months. I am female and 47 years old and I have a stressful career, but was out of work for a 1 1/2 years and I think all this stress of no job brought it back and now I have a career again it's just getting worse. In fact this is the worst my GERD has ever been so much so to cause difficulty swallowing.

One thing that really scared me recent was while in a class all day for my job the breaks we got were just 30 minutes I had to run out quick and get back quick. I ate fast and the lump in my esophagus caused a pulse in my chest to pound and I felt like my heart was racing. I felt the pounding it lasted for 15-20 minutes. Like the food put pressure on the vagus nerve.

Have any of you had any of the above symptoms. I worry about cancer both my grand fathers died from stomach cancer but they worked in orchards with exposure to many chemicals.

Help!
GERD does cause trouble swallowing in the esophagus and may also cause such in the throat (LPR). Dysphagia (trouble swallowing) is a common symtom of even heartburn. I have had it (and so have the others).

As far as the pain goes, remember the stomach and esohpagus are sort of towards the back of our bodies and pain can be "refered" - that is you can feel it even away from the place in the body where it is originating from.

Help![/QUOTE]
I am looking for help also. Years of this nightmare...finally after all the tests and misery, I am told I have bile reflux. Not acid reflux. The meds for acid reflux that I have taken for years have only made the symptions worse. I cannot take the medication the doctor gave me for the bile reflux. Experienced many bad side effects. He says changing my diet wont really help and surgery generally isn't successful. Does anyone have any positive suggestions. I am beyond miserable! Thanks
I am 48 and have had GERD since I was 14. I have had some of your problems. Yes I have GERD that turned into Barrett's esophagus. Like everyone else I am on Nexium, Zantac and sleep with 3 to 4 pillows. Sometimes when I take pills it feels like it is just hanging out in my esophagus with a lot of pain. (I go for a endoscopy every two years.) The only thing that helps me when this happens is a mix of Pepsi and Milk (more Pepsi than Milk) to push the pills down.

Also had the pain on my right side from my back to the front. I went to the doctor and found out that pain was due to gallstones.
I have had my gallbladder removed but still dealing with GERD. Now I am thinking about having surgery for my GERD but don't know much about that yet.

I don't think you should wait for a couple of months before you get your GI. Tell your doctor you are afraid to wait so long because cancer runs in your family and you need something done now.

Good luck.
