Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

Acid Reflux / GERD Board Index

for the past 2 years now i have been sick. i have a lot of excess mucus, constantly dripping down the back of my throat."post nasal drip" it is sometimes very thick, and then sometimes it is very thin and runny. seems to get really thin and i produce more when i get active, run play any sports. at times all of this mucus makes me very nauseous. mostly in the morning when i wake up. hot showers make the pnd worse and also drinking a lot of water.

i am also experiencing a lump in the back of my throat. i always try to caugh it up, but normally get nothing out. this lump triggers my gag reflex and it makes me vomit a lot to the point to where i am even dry heaving. when i vomit it is very violently, i just had to get back surgery done last month due to throwing up to violently i herniated one of my discs. this has to due with the lump in the back of my throat triggering my gag reflex. the best way i can explain it is like sticking your fingure in the back of your throat and leaving it there.

a little back round information.

i have acid reflux which i take nexium for and priolosec. i am lactose intolerant which i take lactaid for. the gastro i went to said i have a hiatal hernia. the ent's ive been to say i have a slightly deviated septum and a very small cists. i have lupus erythematosus tumidus. it is a skin form of lupus. it is not systemic though. i am currently being treated with plaquinal for that.

i have tried all sorts of medicines and get no relief. i have also been to multiple ent's, allergists, gastro's, immunologists, and i get no answers they tell me there is nothing more they can do for me and push me off to another doctor and it's like a viscous circle that never ends. i do have an appointment in april with another gastro that specializes in the esophagus. so hopefully i get some answers i need them i am desperate this is ruining my life. and has been messing me up mentally as well as getting depressed. i can't do much so i am always home. iv'e gotten used to it though. i feel trapped and desperate for answers.

i have more to say which i posted in another post it was a lot longer than this so i hope more people will read this one. if anyone if experiencing any of these symptoms at all please comment and maybe we can figure this thing out together i will be checking the blog daily multiple times a day. someone please help. im soo desperate. and i also want to see if i can get any answers or suggestions for when i go to this new gastro. thanks and please post.
No worries at all mate,

One piece of the puzzle that cleared up my sinis problems and that constant drip, mucus stuff at the back of my throat was this:)

when i wake up in the morning i have a half lemon squeezed in hot water and also do the same as a hot drink after dinner. i also gargle it lightly in the back of my throat as well in the affected area ( try to do the gargle as much as you can). heat the water in the microwave for 50 seconds, you dont want the water too hot or too cold, so 50 seconds is perfect. make sure to leave a gap at the top of the cup so the lemon will fit( Fill the cup about 3/4 full or a little more. cut the half lemon into 3rds ( three pieces) and make sure you get every last drip squeezed out of each wedge. i even run my thumb from top to bottom to get the most lemon out.

If you are not eating organic lemons then make sure to wash the lemon and really rub it clean like you would your hands. The lemon is really awesome for acid reflux as well. seeing as acid relux has alot to do with low stomach acid, we could really use the lemons help!

The lemon has alot of vitamin c in it and this may be one of the reasons why i also do not have any mucus build up, sinus or dripping throat any more.

Make sure to be really consisitent with this because it will take a while for it to kick in. I will admit that it took me a while to get used to having lemon in hot water but now i dont give a shit about the taste, cause i can sleep at night now with out NASAL SPRAYS or NASONEX ( this stuff is not good in the long term).

Lemon might be the last thing you feel like after throwing up in the morning, so leave a bit of time if you do throw up, before you have the drink. Dink it when you feel ready to have it. remeber, it might take some getting used to having this drink but it worked very well for me so it might for you. also make sure you rinse your mouth out with water after the drink cause the juice is not good for your teeth
that is something i am going to start tommorow. if i drink any type of water it is spring water. i am going to go to the store tommorow any buy some lemons. anything is worth trying at this point. i heard of using apple cider vinegar in water, i have no tried that yet. just read about it the other day, but i could imagine the taste would be horrible and make me gag even more.

i have an an appointment with a new gi april 14th, so im trying to do as much research as possiable. it seems as if a lot of this can be the cause of my acid reflux and also something called "lpr" Laryngopharyngeal Reflux. i have not been tested for this yet, but reading about it, it seems as if this could be the cause of it. im not sure im just trying to take things into my own hands now because no medicines have worked, no doctor has been able to give me any answers. i always get pushed off to another doctor and it seems like a cycle that never ends with no answers.

this was something i have been thinking about for awhile now. taking a different approach. alternative medicine such as Doctor of Integrative Medicine like u recommended or seeing a Naturopathy. my cousin has been diagnosed with Lyme disease and for years was very ill, no medications or doctors could help. he finally decided to take a holistic approach twords this and after years of suffering he is doing great now. he is just getting treated with all natural herbs, and on a very healthy diet and has progressed sooo much in a short amount of time. this is what gives me hope still, him and also your story as well.

the only problem will taking a holistic approach is most doctors do not take insurance around here, so it can be very expensive. i have money put away just in case it came to this. i am not a fan of taking medicine as it is. i see it the same way as u do a "band aide" just a cover up, but not getting to main cause. i am going to keep my appointment with the new gi, and see if anything turns up. if not i will be taking the approach you did for this.

im very glad that u are having some relief after years of going through this. it seemed as if i was the only one. u give me hope. i am going to start trying the lemon water tommrow and i will stay consistent with it, lemon water.. i actually like it and i am willing to try anything, i will keep you posted as far as waht progression i am making and what approach i take, and if anything makes me feel better that i know of i will post. 1 thing that i do know that makes me feel a bit better after throwing up is pickles, believe it or not.. i think it has to do with the electrolytes in the pickle juice, but i am not sure.

thank you so much and i will keep you and the rest of the users updates and hopefully more people will reply to and we can all figure this thing out together.

hi sweetie

I drink this stuff and works great after 2 day, but its not harmful??? How long ur cure, or u drink it every day?? U drink this or just gargling?? Now I only drink in the morning for empty stomach.. If u stopp this cure the mucus coming back???
I too have mucus in the back of my throat – I have had it for some time. Lately it is getting worse. I read an idea from someone who wrote you about putting lemon in the back of the throat – I will try that. I went to two doctors who told me I have Acid Reflux/GERG. My MAIN symptoms are SEVERE nausea in the morning and later at night. I have not thrown up in the three weeks since this diagnosis. After doing TONS of research on the internet (I can’t get any answers from my doctors) I too believe that Acid Reflux/GERD is caused from LACK of acid. I found hundreds of sites on Apple Cider Vinegar. I stopped taking the pills and began to use the Apple Cider Vinegar and unbelievably it worked RIGHT away. My nausea is gone instantly after drinking it. I purchase my Apple Cider Vinegar from my local health store, The Whole Wheatery. The bottle cost $2.99. If you choose to try this, you will have to decide how you want to consume it but this is how I do it. I NEVER PUT my water in the microwave. I warm it up in a pan on the stove. I add 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar and drink it with a straw. It is not the best tasting stuff but you do get used to it. I do this three times a day; however, beginning next week, I want to go down to twice a day. Some people add honey; however, for me, I just warm the water and get it over with. My nausea is gone within minutes and this is so exaggeration. I hope if you decide to try it that it will work for you just as well. I am going to try the lemon as instructed by one of your writers to help with the nasal drip. On Sunday I took my Apple Cider Vinegar and ate a HUGE pickle and my symptoms vanished for HOURS. They did come back at night but I drank my ACV and it was gone again. So your writer may be right – we may be lacking acid. Keep researching and I hope you find the answer to help you through this. I know how you feel – up until 3 weeks ago, I was SUPER fit; hiked, swam, walked – I have gone down hill in three weeks. But I am determined to fight this and I plan on fighting hard with as much natural as I can.

I have my medicine as back up (We can’t be stupid either) however, for now I have chose to put them away to see if I can do this the natural way. Ginger is also very good for you.

After seeing the side affects of my medication, I was scared. There are too many risk in taking it.
