Actually, the surgery has a high success rate among people who have the proper testing beforehand and see experienced surgeons. About 90% of people are glad they had it, according to some studies. I had a great experience myself.

You need to confirm that your symptoms are due to reflux, first of all. 24-hour pH monitoring is one way to do it. Also, you may need a manometry to confirm that the muscles in your esophagus are strong enough. (If your esophagus is weak, you are at higher risk for complications.)

Why do PPIs make you feel worse? A few possibilities.

1) The pills are causing side effects such as nausea or diarrhea. Happens to a few people.

2) You develop dependency and feel worse when you quit

3) Lack of stomach acid is making it harder for you to digest your food.
