Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

Acid Reflux / GERD Board Index

I never understood how my LPR could cause a buildup of mucus/postnasal drip if I've never felt anything refluxing up into my sinuses. I don't understand it.
Could be one of two ways:

Acid reflux can get all the way up your sinus cavities, throat and ear canals. What you feel is either the acid going down and/or the acid and/or gasses from the acid can irritate your tissues and cause them to produce mucus to soothe the irritation. Sort of a natural protection mechanism. The mouth produces extra saliva to combat heartburn as well.

That is my theory, but there is probably a more sophisticated one out there.

I had acid inside my ears when I was first diagnosed with reflux five years ago. I had ear infections and bronchitis, and it took a while to figure out what it was.
