You are experiencing dysphagia, and you can have GERD and no heartburn. I did. It was called silent GERD. Have any left sided chest pain, nausea, and anxiety? Usually the symptoms of GERD are similar to myocardial infarction (heart attack). It's frightening, but I recommend seeing a GI doctor bc they know how to treat your symptoms and you will want an endoscopy done for biopsy samples. A primary care doctor does not perform that procedure. IF you are experiencing fewer or hard bowel movements, you may want to cleanse your bowel. It helps the pipes run smoothly. Keep us updated! Bless you!

Just to add on to Rapunzel88's beautiful response. The biopsy is very important because you could have an infection within your esophagus so it is very important to get an Upper Endoscopy. Although that is rarer. I just want to underline the need for you to take care of this with a doctor.

If it is just GERD and the esophagus is swollen, the doctor may put a balloon down there and inflate it. To manually widen the opening and allow easier pathway for food.
