... I've been undergoing diagnosis process of possible early lupus and/or scleroderma. Symptoms are transient malar pinkness, constant mild acid reflux (started December 07) and transient generalized adenopathy. Doc has done barium swallow (normal) and endoscopy (normal exam and esophagus and stomach biopsies normal) but did show some inflammation. I had an allergy-related... (7 replies)
... cea. But other than the acid reflux, I have no bothersome symptoms. Gastro is recommending an endoscopy. She said that if they determine I have hypersensitive esophagus that they would put me on small dose of antidepressants. Has anyone been through this treatment, and has it helped? ... (2 replies)
... That's interesting about your reflux situation. I guess the doctors feel that you have MCTD or an overlap syndrome with both lupus and scleraderma? ... (7 replies)

... no acid and no "barfing", it just appears when I lean over. My dr. said that's scleraderma that it effected my valve or something. I also have lupus, I've had lupus for 15 years and was just also diagnosed with scleroderma about a year ago. There are specific blood tests for the scleraderma titre, you should ask your dr. ... ... This is my first time posting to this board. A little history: I have a long list of medical problems that stem from having Lupus (SLE) and Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS). You can check out my profile and I have them listed. GERD is one of my problems. I felt the need to contribute something that I learned about GERD. My doctor actually had me stop taking the PPI's... ... Hi all, Glad to find this board! Its helped me make a few decisions. Been under a lot of stress, most I wouldnt admit to, and still dont feel it was affecting me negatively. End of March I got laid off at work. A week later I had a medical problem and wasnt sure what was happening. Ill try to explain it the best I can and not make a book out of it. For a couple... ... The short answer is yes. But I'd contact the nutritionist and say, I've been talking with someone with seriously low stomach acid who is being treated with plenty of HCL, and my symptoms correspond with hers. They will likely suggest you do Deglycorized licorace pills 20 minutes before meals to coat your stomach before eating and taking the HCL/Pepsin combo pills. I understand... (21 replies)
... I'm glad fluids help control your reflux - at least you can do something for it. Fluids don't seem to make much difference for me. I can have it at pretty much any time and then I can go for a while without reflux at all for no apparent reason. My reflux symptoms are basically a soreness in my throat and sometimes a sort of burning sensation. I'm on Prilosec and I have been... (7 replies)
... Hello, JoJo-- I agree that it would be great if there were a scleroderma board. I wonder how one could get that started. Hmmm, I need to research that. I think I read that a centromere pattern is associated most often with scleroderma, but with the milder form. I also read that it's true that just because you have the marker doesn't mean you will develop the disease. ... (7 replies)
... I've just had a ton of blood tests for pre scleroderma too. The Rheumatologist says I don't have scleroderma yet and may never get it as there are no skin changes but with the reflux and all there's definitely a risk. The tests show the centromere pattern and high titer. I've had reflux for over a year and recently Raynaud's. Like you there's no particular food that causes... (7 replies)
... Hi, CharBerry-- Thanks for taking the time to reply. I appreciate your insight. I am only on one 20 mg Aciphex once a day, and it really doesn't take care of all the reflux I have. I actually had one "good" day last week, and I was kind of sad because it reminded of me of how my life used to be, before this condition changed it. Nothing I ate caused the reflux. But the... ... I've only been diagnosed with the LPR/GERD (as of now) but I swear I also notice when I drink a coke on ice that I lose the mucus in my throat and sinus feeling! When my sinus feel like it's going to explode it helps me to eat something and that feeling goes away. Of course, they all come back. There are days I can suck on a peice of hard candy or drink water and my... (7 replies)

... They called in a surgeon who was able to push them through with the endoscope and this was one of the times I had my esophagus stretched. I will be on a ppi for the rest of my life, but I am so greatful for the relief they give me. By the way, I am 54. ... (9 replies)
