Gerd Diagnosis

... I think it depends on the doctor/practice. I'm in the US and I recently went to the GI for similar symptoms (mine were primarily the sore throat and mucus with occasional heartburn) and they said that their policy was not to do an endoscopy until the patient had been on PPI's (like Nexium or Prilosec) at least 4-6 weeks. In my case I really wish they would have done the... (3 replies)
... Hi! I've never had dry mouth with any of them. Years ago I tried aciphex, prevacid, nexium, and of course as I said protonix and prilosec. My favorite one was aciphex. With my doctor's approval, I switched to priolsec otc generic because it is 26.1 cent a pill and the protonix generic was 42.3 cents a pill (with insurance) This is just my personal experience and I'm not... ... What you describe usually is a side effect of medication that is taken to help with reflux. Are you by chance on any PPI's? Nexium, Protonix, Prilosec, Aciphex, or evem drugs like Zantac, Pepcid, etc. They block the body's ability to absorb magnesium and calcium, which can mess with your heart rhythm and cause skipped beats. Are you on meds? (1 replies)
... Hi, I feel your pain. I took omeprazole (generic Prilosec) for a week and made symptons for me that I never had, then went to Protonix (5 weeks) and same thing. Asked my Doctor if I could try Nexium (only 17 days) and I think that was the worse one. Right now I'm taking Zantac 150 2 to 3 times a day and seems to be ok but this is only day 3. Zantac was all I took for my... (2 replies)
... wow I can't believe how similar your story is to mine. I've had LPR for 3 years before I got sick I was taking singing lessons I started singing when I was 12 and LPR ruined my life. my LPR started with mild throat symptoms so I never thought it was reflux, my vocal coach used to tell me that I wasn't doing things right, that my technique was bad etc but then my symptoms got... ... Were you tested for EE / eosinophilic esophagitis if you had an endoscopy? I have that condition right now - in fact just got my endoscopy results back yesterday and my EE count was quite high, around 300 - and had many similar symptoms as acid reflux/Gerd and was taking meds for it, which really did not seem to help. I was tested at one point and had many food allergies. ... (6 replies)
... After years on Nexium, Prilosec, Capidex for GERD, had side-effects like headaches or just stopped working; so GI doc switched me to Pepcid and Zantac, sucralfate, etc which helped a little for awhile. About six months ago developed asthma which may be due to silent acid reflux. Recently have gone back on Dexilant as recommended by the Asthma doc. Some recent posts on... (2 replies)
... of. I remember Prilosec made me a little drowsy the first day or two on it, but I adjusted pretty quick. ... (2 replies)
... Yes the med was Lodine and I only took it for 3 days with food and it was horrible. PPI's are proton pump inhibitors. prilosec, nexium, dexilant, etc... (12 replies)
... Thanks for all the replies. I have often wondered about the gastrophesis thing. Not sure just what that is-but will look into the disease and advice for its treatment. Gavin, I have read about the Manuka honey and wondered if I used it straight would it cause an issue with my problems. I thought about mixing it into greek lowfat yogurt. While it is expensive, if it works who... (9 replies)

... Been having acid reflux/Gerd symptoms for the last few months, mainly chest tightness and sore throat. not taking anything anymore (was taking nexium/prilosec and made me feel worse) been well over a month since i took anything except for a few tums here or there and even been a while for that. i made a major diet change, lo-carb, and felt a lot better: no breads or wheat... ... If memory serves, Zantac only works for 8 hours. If you are having this many problems, you need to be on a PPI. I've taken almost all of them over the last 16 years with varying results. Remember, each person will have a different reaction to each of the medications. In my case, I've found that Nexium (Esomeprazole) works the best for me. Don't be fooled into thinking... (7 replies)

... of bouts. The kicker here is you start to feel half way human again and think,"just this one time won't hurt to have it" but it does. I heard that once you have GERD it's a disease that never goes away completely and with the surgery people report it comes back eventually but not as severe! ... (10 replies)
... of the time in the last year but it didn't last. IF the pharma companies found a silver bullet cure for GERD they would be out of big money that is why there will never be a drug that can cure it or keep it away forever, too much money to be lost for them. ... (10 replies)
... Thanks for the response! Currently I'm taking Aciphex and although it's helping, I still don't have the relief I once had on Prilosec and Nexium. I don't understand why they aren't helping like they used to. Maybe it's because my condition got worse. ... (7 replies)
