... Both PrilosecOTC and Zantac are very effective (although no medication works the same for everyone). You don't need to take either one for two weeks to see an improvement, but it may take that long before they start to improve some of the long-term symptoms of acid reflux. Zantac is very fast acting and starts to help with some symptoms in a few hours while Prilosec may take... (7 replies)
... I don't think that Zantac has any calcium in it. It's just Ranitidine. Just don't buy the souped up versions like Pepcid AC, which do contain it. ... (4 replies)
... Hey everyone. I am a 24 yr old female and this is my story. I have had enlarged tonsils my entire life. Never had problems with a sore throat or anything, but I have had problems with tonsil stones off and on. Other than having the tonsil stones pop out occasionally I've had no uncomfortable symptoms with them. Last winter I started having a feeling of a lump in my throat.... (4 replies)

I have been on aciphex, prilosec, protonix, propulsid, zantac, tagamet and now Nexium with no relief. I'm absolutely feeling miserable today and went to a great... (3 replies)
... Hi Candp, I answered your other post, but I will answer this one as well, I have taken Prilosec since 1993, most recently I switched over to the OTC for money purposes, there has been no problems with switching. ... (7 replies)
... Update...talked with my physician today (general medical Doc and not a GI Doc). He recommended switching to Protonix and Carafate, so I'll give it a try. Also, he said that Tums-like products can actually make reflux worse because they contain calcium and the smooth muscles controlling your esophagus opening are impaired by excess calcium. So, no Tums or Zantac. Thoughts?? (4 replies)
... Thanks for the thoughtful reply... I haven't tried H2 blockers although I had some promise at first with the Licorice Root Lozenges, they would work very quickly to neutralize acid, but then it seemed 30-40minutes later it was back with a vengeance. I guess is stress is the root or a major root, it will never get better without fixing that and unfortunately, I see my... (24 replies)
... You seem to be pretty knowledgeable on this stuff. I am on PPI's currently on 40 mg Protonix every other day and taking 150 mg Zantac the other day, as I am trying to wean off of these PPI's. ... (20 replies)
