I know how you feel. I got moderate acne when I was 22, after having pretty much perfect skin throughout my teenage years. It was extremely hard - I cried almost every day. I don't know if you're male or female - I'm female, and I would spend about 30-45 minutes trying to cover it all up every morning. Even then, you could tell, and I always felt like people were staring at my skin.
I'm 24 now, with my acne pretty much under control, however, I still have breakouts.
What has helped me most is being nice and gentle to my skin. I know the same routine does not work for everyone, but my skin is much better (took about 6 weeks) following this routine, and NO PICKING - that made my skin much worse.

a.m. and p.m. ONLY (more cleansing can make you produce more oil)
1 - wash with a gentle cleanser (Purpose or Cetaphil liquid soap)
2- apply 2.5% Benzol Peroxide liberally all over the face (Neutrogena On-The-Spot) - about 1/2 to 1 teaspoon

ONCE or TWICE weekly home facial p.m.
1 - cleanse with gentle cleanser (see above)
2 - exfoliate with baking soda or plain white sugar
3 - cleanse again gently if you use sugar
4 - boil some water, take it off the burner, steam face for 5 minutes with a towel over your head, then pat gently with a clean towel
5 - apply plain Milk of Magnesia to dry skin, and let that dry and absorb some oil (about 10-15 minutes)
6 - rinse with tepid, lukewarm water
7 - apply the 2.5% Benzol Peroxide

I also take a multi-vitamin and a complete EFA (Essential Fatty Acids).

I wish you luck!
