I'm trying to figure out my new acne regiment. Because my skin tends to dry out, I have decided to go w/ either of these 2 options.

1)Use a product (Neutrogena Multi-Vitamin) with salicylic acid TWICE a day.
2)Use a product with glycolic acid (Neostrata 8%) ONCE a day.

I'm on Accutane as well, but my goal with these products is to bring the skin back to a more natural look (less redness, and less dryness) and clear up those damn red marks.

P.S. My facial cleanser is Clean & Clear, and moisurizer is Glaxal Base.
If you're on accutane, you should use cetaphil moisturizer, not salicylic acid or glycolic acid. This advice is given to you by a past accutane user, so take it seriously. And as for doing anything else on accutane, it's really unneccessary. People do all sorts of things while on accutane. (I did). But in the end, I realized that nothing I did really made a difference except for lotioning up. Don't bother with anything else; just let the accutane do the acne-fighting and you do the moisturizing.

I rec. Cetaphil moisturizer and Aquaphor.

Good luck! and relax!
Accu's advice is sound! I don't think you could get better advice that what s/he has given. Accutane will do all the work it can regarding fighting your acne. The only thing you need to do is prevent your skin drying out and as Acc has said already, you should moisturise alot! Definitely use aqueous cream for this!

Furthermore, I have used both the salicyclic and glycolic acid products you have mentioned and to tell you the truth they were useless. The only thing I did experience was redness and occasional burning and I don't even have severe acne. So can you imagine what do you will do to your skin if you use them while on Accutane? They are both a definite no no!! Good luck.

I have just learned that salicylic acid should only be put on the hot spots when you have a breakout becaue it dries and irritates skin if you put it all over. A non-alcohol, non-glycol moisturizer can reduce acne flare-ups and than the salicylic acid as a spot treatment only when you get them. This kind of makes sense to me.

This is my skin regimen:

A.M.
ProActiv Deep Cleansing Wash w/ 2% Salicylic Acid
10% Ultra Moisurizing Oil Free - Glycolic Complex (by Cell Renewal Systems)
Neutrogena Oil Free Moisturizer

P.M.
Cetaphil Cleanser
5% Ultra Moisturizing Oil Free - Glycolic Complex
Neutrogena Moisturizer as needed.

I feel Glycolic Acid has been the most helpful for my problem skin. It does not dry out or irritate my skin. I also find that Glycolic Acid works best when used w/ Salicylic Acid. Not all the time but sometimes.
