I just came from the derm and I have seborrheic dermatitis on my face. (Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin disorder that can be easily treated. This condition is a red, scaly, itchy rash most commonly seen on the scalp, sides of the nose, eyebrows, eyelids, skin behind the ears, and middle of the chest. Other areas, such as the navel (belly button), buttocks, skin folds under the arms, axillary regions, breasts, and groin, may also be involved.)

Mind you, I have this and acne as well. Maybe even as a result of the dermatitis.

H&S has been used for seborrheic dermatitis on the scalp, but also on the body. I've had luck using it - I've noticed an improvement in my bacne.

So my derm said to try ZNP Bar Soap. It's OTC, no prescription needed. It has 2% pyrithione zinc (the same ingredient in H&S, though I think H&S has only 1%). I've found it at the eckerd site for $8, though other stores like walgreens may carry it, even if it's not on their site.

Here's a blurb:
"ZNP Bar with 2% pyrithione zinc is a unique medicated cleanser that relieves the itching, irritation and skin flaking associated with seborrheic dermatitis of the face, scalp and body. ZNP Bar also relieves the itching and scalp flaking associated with dandruff. ZNP Bar's rich-lathering formula cleanses gently and effectively. When used as a shampoo leaves hair soft and shiny. The unique bar form makes it more convenient and economical than liquid soaps or shampoos."

Seriously, since I heard of seborrheic dermatitis and pityrosporum folliculitis (PF is often misdiagnosed as acne vulgaris. Patients have been treated with medication appropriate for acne vulgaris, without effect) I'm convinced that's what my problem is. From my reading online, the two kinda go hand in hand. I believe it's basically a yeast overgrowth (which I know for a fact is my problem since I was on antibiotics for acne).

Hopefully this will help someone. Like many others, I've tried EVERYTHING out there for acne. But you have to treat the cause, and in this case, it was something entirely different. Just do a search online for the two skin problems I listed above - you may be surprised to learn what the symptoms are! They're easily mistaken for acne and just plain 'ol dry skin!
