What prompted you to take these steps? And what do you think it is that is working best for you? I have tried so many things, I am now back on Antibiotics, which I don't really want to do but Accutane is not really an option I want to consider right now. My derm is not in belief of anything other than meds, I am curious about what you are using, and what led you to it, what type of acne you had and for how long. The reason I ask is what works for some doesn't work for others. I am desperate to find an answer that will work for me (other than Accutane, I did this many years ago, so I know it will work for me). Any info you can provide would be helpful. And Congratulations to you!
[QUOTE=frogprince]I can't seem to embrace this feeling. Can it really be true?

I've had 6 session of mild dermabrasion so far and 3 sessions of spanish peel. I've been taking the Obagi Skincare regime for 3 weeks now.

and I can't believe my eyes - my scars are fading away. I JUST CAN NOT BELIEVE IT. I still have scars that are very much noticable, but they are really are fading away. I've been getting lotsa compliments from people that it is indeed getting better.

I don't much acne anymore and I have learned to control my acne with diet, but I have so many scars. I just can't really seem to believe they are actually fading away. I can't believe it and embrace the feeling.

I don't know. With my face, I've sort of developed an attitude of disappointment. I've been used to doing things to eliminate acne and scars that never worked. First, I got used to being disappointed in trying products to eliminate my acne and I knew they wouldn't work despite the fact I was consistent and patient with the product. When I finally learned that diet was a cure for my acne, I was relieved, but not particularly overjoyed. I had stopped the fuel that had started my acne, but I was still left with scars which looked depressing. Disappointment again became a normal expectation when I tried to remove my scars. I faithfully followed products and routines and advice that never worked. For months, I even avoided looking at the mirror because I would only feel sad to look at these scars.

Now, I just can't believe it. Is it really happening? I haven't had this feeling for so long. I haven't seen my REAL FACE in such a long time. I JUST CAN'T SEEM TO EMBRACE THIS FEELING.

Dude i understand how you feel, ive actually felt the same way for 2 weeks before. lol. It really is like a feeling ive never felt, or at least can remember. For the last 3 years ive suffered from daily cystic acne breakouts, several every day. Now i found that cheese is the main culprit, ym face is doing awesome. I started a new job monday, after 90 days they pay for 100% of my insurance. So i can't wait to goto derm and see what he can do for redmarks. That is who you goto for the microdermabrasion right? Good Luck with your face dude, im happy for you. I can't wait till i can feel that way...maybe i can finally get a gf...GD IT
hey thanks guys

I was able to "stop the flow" of acne by stopping the "cause", which had been my diet all the long. For me, it turned out that most of the "healthy" foods that I was eating were the ones that triggered my acne all the long. It all makes perfect sense to me now. Why? The BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION with people is that they think that the acne - diet relation is between "healthy" and "unhealthy" foods. They immediately blame all the fatty and oily foods as causing acne. I faithfully avoided eating candies, oily foods, and anything society condemned as "unhealthy" and STILL I got acne. One day I just told myself I would EXPERIMENT and make changes with my diet. I just told myself that something "healthy" had to be causing the acne.

I search through message boards and read threads that recognized diet as a cause of acne. I look through people's PERSONAL LISTS of what people avoided and tried to group the COMMON ONES that appeared of most of the lists. I was in fact right - As I read through the lists, there were many foods that caused acne they listed that were in face what society claimed was "healthy." I applied some of the information into my diet.

I avoided certain foods to see whether my skin would get better OR
I would intentionally eat a lot of one type of one food to see whether I would break out anytime soon. Its VERY HARD To decipher a cause if you are eating different types of foods, SO WHAT I DID WAS LESSEN THE VARIETY and ISOLATE CERTAIN FOODS. I kept a strict diary. After weeks of continuous experimentation and experimentation of avoiding and isolating, I finally got face under completely control. (obviously, my list was different from theirs. there were things they said that caused acne that turned out to be fine for my skin)

Through my PERSONAL experimentation, these are the causing of Acne for me:

Bananas
Corn -(this includes cereals! I took out CEREALS and it made a BIG DIFFERENCE)
Diary - Got Milk? = Got Zits? Got Pimples? Got Pus?
Carrots
Peas
Mango

"healthy" Food routines in my life:
-I drank milk AND ate cereal. "Milk can make you grow taller... blah blah" MILK + CEREAL = ACNE TAG TEAM POWER COMBO. STOP EATING CEREAL! EAT OATMEAL INSTEAD.
-I disciplined myself into eating a banana everyday. "Bananas are high in potassium." WOAH! Another acne causing.
-The common vegetables in my diet are CARROTS, PEAS, AND CORN. These vegetables were predominantly in most of the my meals. I also drank lots of carrot juice - "It's high in Vitamin C... Blah blah blah".

you can give me some scientific explanation that why these foods are healthy foods BLAH BLAH BLAH. THE POINT IS IT MAY BE GOOD FOR YOUR BODY, BUT HAZARDOUS FOR YOUR SKIN. THAT IS THE BOTTOM LINE.

Through my PERSONAL experimentation, I also found out that-

I am OK with OILY FOODS. (I WOULD EAT A OILY HOT DOG OVER A BANANA ANYDAY BABE! YOU CAN CLOG MY ARTERY, BUT YOU WON'T TOUCH MY SKIN!)
I am OK with Carbs. (many people claim the Atkins Diet is the cure to acne, but I guess carbs don't apply to me).
I am OK with certain sweets.
I am OK with so many other "unhealthy foods."

My advice:

Continous experimentation. That's the only way. KEEP A FOOD DIARY. I'm VERY SERIOUS here. You have to individually ISOLATE and AVOID foods than
ASK YOURSELF THESE QUESTIONS ==> WHAT DO I EAT ALL THE TIME? WHAT IS ALWAYS IN MY DIET? WHAT DO I EAT EVERY MORNING? WHAT ARE THE REGULAR FOOD ROUTINES THAT I JUST KEEP DOING? HOW COME I AM AVOIDING THIS PARTICULAR FOOD GROUP AND IT IS NOT MAKING A DIFFERENCE? I STARTED AVOIDING THIS TYPE OF FOOD, AND FACE IS GETTING BETTER - WHAT IF I START TAKING IT AGAIN, WILL MY FACE GET WORST AGAIN?

If you do get a breakout, you have to consider ALL the foods you were takinng at that time . YOU CANNOT QUICKLY ACCUSE ONE FOOD, but you have to consider WHAT ELSE you were taking. I know its tricky, but if you isolate and avoid foods, the causes will get easier to find.

You have to neglect "unhealthy" / "healthy" and BE OPEN to stopping eating type of food. Even the ones you like. EVERY SINGLE FOOD YOU TAKE IS A SUSPECT. Particularly explore the "healthy foods" area. Please search through these threads in this forum and apply the information of what people said, but CUSTOMIZE IT according to you. (I guess you can call it a tricky game, but you have to play it.)

Addtitionally, my advice is that you do NOT starting avoiding and isolating by quickly making GENERALIZATIONS. You cannot make any GENERALIZATIONS when approaching a diet. What I mean by this that its so easy to make a generalization that ALL of a CERTAIN FOOD GROUP causes acne. Don't do that. From your experimentation, you cannot claim that ALL refined sugars caused acne. You cannot claim that ALL carbs cause acne. You cannot claim that ALL foods with a certain type of ingredient will cause acne. If you do this and make quickly make generalizations, you might end up avoiding foods that DO NOT cause acne for you. Each meal/food is a specific individual, and should be JUDGED SEPERATELY regardless of them being in the same food group as other meals/foods.

You have to take it SLOWLY. You have to take it DISH by DISH (or specific MEAL by specific MEAL), NOT Food GROUP by Food Group.

That's just my advice. I'm not too sure if I was of any help. Somehow I feel like I am reiterating stuff people already know. Obviously, many of you might disgree with what I say and that's just fine. I'm just saying the way that worked FOR ME. Anyway, keep the fight up everybody and one day you will have a clear face!

What are some base foods/meals you started off with upon which you added different foods little by little? How many days did it take for your skin to react out IF one of these foods was the acne trigger?
