your derm will know what it is thats what their there for.
Oh! Yeah! Why don't you tell that to my three previous Mediocre derms. My back acne has gone down because my new derm (well he is actually a dermatopathologist) rediagnose my case as mostly a very severe case of Keratosis Pilaris mixed with acne and treated it as such. He also enphasized on making sure that I use alot of moisturizers on my skin even though I had a really oily skin. Guess what he ordered! Vaseline! Vaseline?! Retin A at Night and good old Vaseline in the morning right after I shower. The bottom line is this: Don't trust your derms right away. Ask for a written Diagnosis and do your own research before buying the prescription. It will save you money, and it will save your skin. I have bought all kind of precription in the past from Topical and Oral Antibiotics to prescription peroxide creams. My dermatopathologist took alot of time to really touch and look at my skin to tell me what my problem was. He went far enough and requested that he checked other parts of my skin where I had no acne (No! not there! I know what you thinking), I initially had no clue for his reason. Lord behold! behind the top of my thigh were little cases of Keratosis Pilaris. BTW I am ethnic with dark skin, and I donot share symptoms such as red skin. There is no where on my body that my skin can blush or appear red. Your case might be different, it might be something else different from Keratosis, but there is a lesson learned here. Why? I have scars that will never go away.
hey spiro9210, i'm sorry to hear about your previous experiences with your doctors. i guess i was to general when i stated that "thats what their there for", i said this because keratosis is so common and is so obvious and unsightly looking that i could spot someone with kp from a mile away. i do believe doctors can mess up after all they are human ya know, but im glad you found a good doctor that will listen. vaseline is good for the skin my friends mother has the most beautiful skin and i asked her what she uses and she said just vaseline(of course you wouldnt put this on your face if you where really prone to acne). that was a good idea that he checked other parts of the body, have you ever noticed the little patchs on your thigh? (i know its the back of your thigh so its harder to see...lol) well if you have dark skin thats probably why you don't have redness or blush but lighter skinned people like myself get that as a symptom, my skin isn't even that light, i didnt mention before but i also have kp rubra faceii which is another form of kp on the face, there are many different forms of keratosis that can appear on the face. and your skin is not red on the body i meant the face that is red and can blush. i know for a fact i have kp(its easy to see with my lighter skin) yours just might be harder to tell because of your darker skin, therefore people with lighter skin can probably see the difference between acne and kp. im sorry to hear about your scars. do you have kp on your arms?
