Hey,there! I've been using the Retin-a Micro for about 3 months now. I am very happy with the results. I'm on the strongest dose and my skin has had no problems with it! I broke out for awhile, too. It purges your skin and gets rid of all the junk. I got very oily at first, too. Then it subsided a bit. I can still get oily after wearing my makeup all day. (I've always had oily skin.) Are you using anything else? I also use Finacea Gel twice a day. The combo seems to be working for me. I use Aqua Gylcolic face wash in the am. and oil-free acne wash by Neutrogena in the pm. This combo also seems to help get rid of the clogged pores on my forehead and cheeks. They are slowly going away!!! I've tried so many different combos of cleansers... I think sometimes I am obsessed with my face!!! LOL I need to get a life! LOL Anyway, keep in touch and let me know what's working for you!
Well, I used Proactiv for over a year, so I think my face has to get used to this new stuff. But it hasn't caused any breakouts from like battles of the Proactiv and Retin A Micro chemicals.

In the morning, I wash my face with Neutrogena Rapid Control Oil-Controlling Cleanser. It really does a good job of getting all the excess oil and dried skin off my face. My face usually oils up as the day goes on, so, sometimes I will wash again in the afternoon. At night, I wash my face again with the same stuff, then apply the Retin A Micro. After about 20 minutes, I can start to feel my face warming up. I look in the mirror and it looks like I am blushing all over. About 25-30 minutes after that, my face is oily as hell. I know it is just the Retin A Micro doing its job, so it doesn't bother me. I wake up in the morning and my face usually doesn't have much oil on it. I'm not sure if thats the way the RAM works or if its from my face being buried in the pillow all night or a combination. My routine starts all over again in the morning.

Today is day 15 and I have a few pimples in places where they normally don't pop up. In the closed comedone areas on my cheeks and forehead, there are a few red spots. I think its the RAM pulling the junk up and out. I have also noticed more blackheads popping up, like the RAM has pulled it from under the skin. Also, my forehead does have the white bumps (closed comedones) in the middle of it, and I hardly ever get red spots up there, but I do have about 2-3. The good thing about RAM is that these pimples dry up pretty quick. They were there yesterday and I can hardly see them today. Also, the white bumps on my face are starting to become more noticeable. I am pretty sure that is from them being purged higher to the surface so they can we dried up and washed away.

I'll keep posting....
doxycycline takes 6 months to show full improvement so hang in there with that.. i was taking 50mg 2x a day for six months and i was still breaking out.. my derm moved me up to 100mgs 2x a day for 2 more months to see if it improves, plus the retin a .05%.. she said .05% was best for those with oily skin, which mine was.. my oil is gone pretty much.. i wash with only warm water in the am and cetaphil in the pm.. even cetaphil dries me out, which i love..

but today is day 24 for me with retin a and many of my closed comodones are scabbing up.. my skin looks lighter and is less oily, but im certainly not clear..

i hope the retin a clears me a little in the next week(4 week mark) 'cause its halloween and i dont want to be 'the girl wearing too much make up' this year..

Hello :)
The glycolic acid face wash doesn't irritate your skin at all? I used to use it before going on retin-a (to combat wrinkles) but now i'm just using cetaphil. Also, what strength retin-a are you on? I've been using 0.025% avita (generic retin-a) cream and doxycycline for about 3 months now. I noticed a big improvement during the first 2 months, but since then, my results have sort of plateaued. I was thinking about going back to the doc and asking for 0.05%, but i wasn't sure if it would help.

Did your derm tell you that it takes 6 months for doxy to work? I've been on it for 3 months and I swear I've already built up a resistance to it. Other people on the board have said that staying on it for that long can be harmful. I'm going to the doc next week so i'll see what she thinks.
Don't let this be discouraging, but... In my opinion, retin a was one of the worst choices I made for my skin.. It made my face into a nasty red oily river of acne, not including it increased my pore size. It took around a year for my face to regain it's normal look. What retin a does is increase cell turnover rate, so that's why things appear for less time, and your skin on your face feels thiner. Anyway, I wouldn't recommend it, but different people have different skin types and different things work. in the end tho, goodluck.
Day 23

I've got a few red spots and a couple of small whiteheads on the surface. I've noticed that some of the white bumps (closed comedones) have shrank in size, and a few of them have turned to blackheads and loosened from my skin.

Well, it is week three and this is when the worst is supposed to be happening. I know my face gets really oily from this stuff now and has been more lately. I suppose this will last for another few weeks before it gets better. But it's alright, I can tough this out, especially when I think of my reward in a few weeks....
