I had mild acne for about 8 months before I decided to see a derm. I was prescribed Differin Gel along with Minocyline. After probably the hardest 3 months of my life, I am finally clear. The Differin definately made things worse at first, but looking back, it was worth it. I noticed that many people who are clear don't come back to the boards, so I'll post what worked for me.

I wash with Phisoderm facewash for dry/normal skin at night and in the morning. I apply moisturizer in the morning because my skin is a little bit dry. After school, I apply Activclear to old acne spots, it has helped to fade them. They're still noticeable, but have improved. At night, I apply Differin, and apply Rex Eme Cream over it because the Differin is drying. At first I was not sure if this would work, but the cream claims it does not clog pores, and I've read some reviews of people who claimed it cleared their acne. I don't think that it has decreased the effectiveness of Differin. I have been slowing dropping minocyline, by 100 mg a week. I started off taking 2 pills a day (1400 mg a week) but now I'm down to taking 1000 mg a week, and will continue to drop 100 mg a week. So far no new breakouts since starting to ween off it. As for diet, I stopped drinking pop and milk, cut back on junk food and dairy products, and eat more fruit and drink WAY more water. That and juice are basically all I'll drink now. I also exercise regularly. I just purchased the neutrogena advanced solutions peel to help fade my red marks completely, and to hopefully help my dryness.

Hopefully some of this info will help, I would also appreciate some comments/advice on the following:

-Is it alright to apply moisturizer over Differin?
-What do you think of my routine of dropping mino (I'm hoping to avoid the breakout that many experience if they just drop it)?
-Has anybody else tried the Neutrogena peel, and what did you think of it?

I'm happy about finally being clear...my face has been slowly clearing up the past few weeks, but this past week it seemed to improve a ton. Keeping my fingers crossed...hopefully my battle with acne is over. Good luck to everybody, and thanks in advance for comments. Please feel free to ask questions also.

Hi there- yes, you can use moisturizer with differin. I like to allow my differin to soak in at least half an hour then I apply a thin layer of oil of olay total effects, which is a great vitamen-enriched oil free moisturizer .
