Hi Lily-

I'm currently under the care of a naturopath. I'm a 27 Y.O. M and have also tried quite a few things too. I'm 3 weeks into the treatment and though I'm still breaking out, the oiliness of my skin has reduced dramatically. Granted, I'm sure naturopathic dr's vary, so I don't know if you'd get the same advice, but here's what I'm doing. Be warned though, it's not pretty ...

I don't really have time to get into the nitty gritty right now, but essentially I need to rebuild my cells from omega 3 fats and go low carb. This will stabilize hormones (sebum) and keratin production, both of which contribute to acne. In order to do this I'm taking Chromium, vitamin e, saw palmetto, and 2 tbs of carlson fish oil twice a day. Also, as I mentioned, I have to rebuild my cells to be "omega 3 machines," so that means my primary source of fat has to be omega 3's - meaning fish. I'm only allowed to eat low carb vegtables, fish, egg whites, etc, and only use just enough olive oil to coat the pan. No dairy either. It's pretty depressing at first (not the LC part, I've actually been LC for a few years), but I don't really like fish, now it's all I can eat! I'm learning to like it though. In fact, I like never ate fish, so maybe that's part of my problem.

Anyway, I know your next question .... 3-6 months. After that I can then start to add foods back in and see how I react, but he said I should definately be able to have meat, etc again. I would guess I would continue the fish oil and make sure I keep fish in my diet a few times a week. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Anyway, as I said, I'm still breaking out, but the difference in oil production is dramatic.
