Benzoyl peroxide
Apr 18, 2003
Hey guys, I've heard that Benzoyl Peroxide works... But I don't know where to find it, and what it looks like? I went to K-mart the other day, and I couldn't find anything..? Is it just something that's in a product? Could anybody give me a hand on what to look for? At a K-mart anyways! Thanks
here is some information for you. if you have any other questions let me know...

"One of the most commonly used ingredients in over-the-counter treatments, Benzoyl Peroxide can be very effective in treating mild cases of non-inflammatory acne. It’s safe for children as well as adults, and may combined with other topical or oral treatments

Benzoyl peroxide works by destroying P. acnes, the bacteria that causes the condition acne. It acts as an antiseptic and oxidizing agent, reducing the number of comedones, or blocked pores. It may be 2–3 weeks before you begin to see improvement

While benzoyl peroxide kills existing P. acnes, it does not increase your body’s natural resistance to bacteria. So even when your breakouts begin to disappear, you should keep treating acne-prone areas. Why? This course of treatment kills bacteria, but it does not affect sebum production or the rate at which you shed your dead skin cells. If you stop using it, the bacteria — and your acne — will return.

You can get Benzoyl Peroxide at pretty much any drug store or kmart or wallmart. Benzoyl peroxide is available in a wide range of gels, creams, lotions and cleansers in non-prescription concentrations of 2.5%, 5% and 10%

My favorite is Clean and Clear Persa-Gel 5% Benzoyl Peroxide. Its better to get a cream or gel than a wash because with the wash, all you do is wash away the Benzoyl Peroxide.

Good Luck!
hey...about the benzoyl peroxide... I've been using PanOxyl Benzoyl Peroxide soap for my acne for about 3 months now and I have seen great does tend to dry out your skin sometimes so I always use a good, gentle toner afterwards...but it works for me !
I first saw it at wal mart and then saw it at's a bar soap in a blue box..about 7 bucks but worth it...just rub some on your hand and wash gently ...and rinse well !!! hope that helps
I have read that the PanOxyl Soap Bar containing either 5% or 10% Benzoyl Peroxide can clog pores. Any soap bar can clog pores. According to Paula Begoun ("The Cosmetic Cop") The ingredients used to keep the soap in a bar form can clog pores. Just thought it might be some FYI

Good Luck
I dont know why but the stores or supermarkets in my local area dont sell 10% BP. I only see 5% on the shelves and never did see any 10% BP brands for some reason. I'm currenlty using what John17 said "Clean and Clear Persa-Gel 5% Benzoyl Peroxide". I have tried OXY and Neutrogena ones too and moved on to Johnson&Johnson because i want to test different brands. I thought i saw OXY made 10% but is not anywhere i check.

I live in Canada, Ontario so has any Canadian see 10% BP being available in their local stores? I think they mostly come in prescriptions right? But i dont like the idea of that because i think i have to pay more for the service fee than the damn bottle/tube. :(
