I have mild acne and I have been using Differin for 3 years and love it. I don't know what I would do without it. It is a retinoid like Retin A but is a lot milder and a lot less irritating to the skin. I use the cream version because the gel versions have alcohol in them and are very drying and irritating to the skin causing redness, burning, and flaking.

It is also very inportant to use a small amount and to use a moisturizer in addition to the medication. A good one to use is Curel fragrance free, it's the one with the green label. It is oil free and has very few ingredients in it. Water and glycerin are the first two ingredients. Glycerin is very inportant as it helps the skin to retain moisture, therefore preventing your skin from drying out from the medication. What I do, after I clean my face at night, I put on the moisturizer and then put on the medication. The moisturizer delutes the medication, keeping it from being so potent and strong but does not prevent the medication from working. This was something my dermatologist had suggested to me and I have been doing this for three years.

Also try using a mild cleanser. Harsh ingredients in cleansers and cosmetics can also take their toll on the skin. I use Clean and Clear for sensitive skin. It is soap free and has a small ingredient list which is also inportant. You don't want to put a ton of chemicals on your face. There is no need for a toner after cleansing. Toners are very drying as is saliclyic acid and benzyl peroxide. Over drying the skin will just make the skin produce more oils to compensate for what was lost.....so try to avoid doing that. Use salicylic acid and benzyl persoxide only as spot treatments for the stuborn zits. I still get a few of them but they are a lot more managable. They do not freighten me any more. I even use benzyl peroxide with Differin for those stubbornt ones and it works out fine. I hope I have helped. I have done a lot of research on my own about acne because I have had it for 14 years and I know it sux. Good luck.
