- if it has worked for you and if so, how long did it take to clear your skin up
- did you stop taking it after your skin cleared
- what kind of side effects you had
I began taking spiro a little under 2 years ago. It seemed like the first dose I took immediately effected me. I got kind of light headed and couldn't drive all day. It felt kind of good to be that "calm" and I didn't get a new breakout which allowed the existing pimples to clear. Within a few days the side effects of dizziness subsided however it messed with my period (I would "spot" in between periods) which wasn't too bad and I could deal w/ it. I stayed moderately clear until I stopped taking it when I wasn't covered under my parents insurance anymore (ran out of spiro).

I started taking it again in March of last year. I got it prescribed b/c I had a horrible horrible breakout (one of the worst ever) and again it seemed to work almost immediately for me, though that is not always the case for some people. My face was clear for the most part, the only thing was that it did not stop me from getting the same 2 cysts I get every month before my period. It was still a definite improvement from how I was before. Again, I had the same minor side effects and remained moderately clear until I stopped taking it again 4 months ago. I broke out badly (as per usual before I took spiro) after I stopped taking it, cystic acne, small zits and pimples all over my face. That is my condition now.

Overall, I really like spiro. It has been the best thing I've used so far to control my acne. It's not perfect, but it has helped me the most to manage this problem I have and it is pretty safe from what I've heard. The only thing I don't like is having to pay so much for it every month (no insurance) and that I have to take it every day (if I accidentally skip a dose, I break out). Because of this I tried smoothbeam (which helped w/ scars, not acne) and now I am going to try accutane to see if I get a long term affect. One thing is for sure, I will continue to keep a bottle of spiro on hand with me in case the accutane doesn't work.

One other thing, when I went off spiro the first and second times, I didn't get a period for 3 months.

I really hope the spiro works for you and good luck! :)
