Have you tried changing your diet?.I figured out soda was cuzing my acne and thought i would try going a couple of days without drinking any at all,wel i didnt get any new pimples and the 1's i had started going away.So i have stuck with it for about 2 weeks and still realy no new pimples.i do have like 3 right on my forehead like between my eyebrows. Those have been there since before i stopped the soda and they were pretty bad so i guess thats why they are taking so long to go away.Other than those though im still clear,i do have a couple of red marks from past pimples but those arent nothing compared to having the zit in its place.

Anyway i know the deit thing may not work for eveyone but its worth a shot, just try to see if you can think of anything you eat or drink that you sespect may be cuzing acne, and stop it.

Also i just want to note that soda is the only thing i have stopped,i still eat chocolate, chips, cookies all that kind of stuff. So junk food itself really isnt the cuz of some acne as some ppl my think,or atleast it isnt for me.

Well hope thats some help, maybe youve tried it but just thought i would post it incase you havnt.Good luck with your treatment,im not sure i could ever do that myself but i guess if i was as bad as you say,i would probly be at the end of my ropes as well.
Deltoro,

I have been doing yoga, as well. And, again, your situation sounds very similiar to mine. I not only eat well to stay lean, I eat well, more importantly, to be healthy. :bouncing: I, too, cheat and may order my french fries and chicken fingers. Although, I stay away from McDonald's. I am sure what I eat is no better, at times. What kind of yoga do you do? I, generally, do Bikram yoga (the hot yoga), but my Dr. said it may be aggravating my acne. heat causes more inflammation. I have not been doing Bikram since I started accutane, but , this week, I am testing it out. I really want to get back in it. I love the way I feel and how my body looks when I do it. On the other hand, my ND, said she didnt think the acne was aggravating it. She said it would be beneficial to do the Bikram to ...like you said... rid the toxins. I dont know which stand point to take.
I can see both sides as well on this one, and because it takes two weeks for acne to form it might be that long before you know wether or not it would aggravate your acne. I guess it just depends on how worried you are about being broken out if it does, you know it will go away and you will be able to pretty much link to the two to realize it is aggrevating your acne so it can be eliminated. My acne when it was still mild was always worse in the heat and that is when and the only time I suffered with bacne. So its a roll of the dice on this one. Take a chance if you want or just stick with another kind of yoga. I do a ashtanga combined with a few other practices mixed in, basically what you might learn in a general yoga class with some more advance moves and combinations. Let me know how it goes!
Hey all! Im on accutane.. or the Generic version called Claravis. Its working great for me!! Im a 23 yr old female and had a ance prob sinse high school but it didnt start getting kinda bad till I was 21. Im on day 115. A couple weeks ago I had like 2 very small white heads that went away the next day! thats it..Before... I had cyts, Id get pretty big ones sometimes, and I got them on my back an chest sometimes too. it was weird they would just move all around but never be in all 3 places at once. then it started gettin worse! I did get as much as some people with real bad acne got but my derm said mine was severe enough in the kind it was (cysts) anyway... I also have really oily skin. sinse on accutane my skin has not gotten too oily at all! I LOVE IT!! I did get dry but not that bad I think because of already having oily skin. Side effects have been very tollerable. I never had an initial break out... my lips get dry but not to the point that i look flaky.. my face was kinda annoying and flaky around my mouth for a while but lately that hasnt been a problem. I also have had some joint pain sort of. I work out and do Aerobics soo I think you just get sore easier.. I have an ache back anyway so that has been bothering me a bit more.. I have about 2 months left! Im on 60 mg now. I started @ 40mg. I think accutane is great, I know there are these side effects. I think why it feels like your signing you life away is the pregnancy issue. I did a Serious BUTT LOAD of research on the net... I think the 1st few years of Accutane or so they had issues with women not taking the DONT GET PREGNANT issue serious. I read some stats and there was waaay too many women that had to get abortions and stuff because they didnt listen. they are just trying to be safe sinse that is the worse thing that could happen is.. having a baby with issues because of the med.
Oh jeez.. I'm so sorry, Deltoro!!!!!!!

That is just an awful feeling. I always feel like people think that of me, too. I wanted to smack my mom a few weekends ago. There are these 2 guys who go to my church, and they both used to have acne really, really severely. Well, we saw the one brother recently, and his skin looked great. She was like, " What do you think he did?" And I said, "Probably Accutane" and she replies with the ignorant statement of "I always thought it was because they were on drugs" And I was so offended. I mean, I don't have the same kind of acne as they had (it was quite severe), but regardless- I have a problem right now. And my mom even had a problem with acne after pregnancy. So......Does that mean I am on drugs too? Why are people so ignorant?!?

Oh well, screw them! For real..let them think what they want..they are total a$$hat idiots with no life. Start a rumor about them, or something- or say it face to face to them.. Just be like "I love the fact that you deem it necessary to talk behind my back... For your information, My skin is broken out because Im taking medication...Not drugs. And as far as STDs go, I would think you'd know the difference between them and acne. Seeing as how you are a walking Viral infection. Now, talk about anyone in this office you feel you need to- but if I ever hear my name again, you will eat a filing cabinet through your ***, you giant fifth grader. Grow Up."
LOL ...at least that's what I would do in this situation.
hey del, you sound great! what an attitude you have girl, i'm so jealous. but i'm so happy for you, sounds like you're treating yourself well. i gotta get some of that jergens!! i couldn't find it at the grocery, they had every other kind of jergens tho. and some coppertone thing that claimed to be the same, but i'm not taking any chances. i'll have to try target today. when i go shopping for new shoes for vegas-w/out-my-husband-- eeeee!!!

have you been washing your hair every day, or more every other? i've been going every other or so and rinsing and conditioning in between, but it's still getting pretty dry. and it seems to be totally falling out, it's all over everywhere, but i still seem to have plenty left, as i too have always had really thick hair. i don't know what the heck is going on. i'll tellya tho', i am so ready to be done with this medication! i catch every cold, and of course it's spring now so there are allergies to deal with too. not to mention the sun. the sun! used to be my friend, now it just burns me. that never, ever used to happen. ever! whaaaa? argh!

hey supasta, i have a ?? for you, (congratulation, btw! now i guess i'll have to go to the movies!) i'm thinking about auditioning for a film that's going to be shot here, but am pretty nervous about the "freckles" that are still all over my cheeks and jaw. i'd be interested in your opinion. due to the acne, i've been on about three auditions over the last five years, and i'm pretty sure my nervousness has prevented me from booking a single job. all the other girls seem tohave such nice creamy skin, ya know? what do you think? you don't seem to be slowed down too much by this. i try, but keep chickening out. just a teeeeensy bit of confidence i lack utterly. i have just enough to go to the grocery store, know what i'm saying here? okay, enough of that!

hey juici! still thinking about the tane? i don't know that i would recommend it, necessarily, if you can find something else that works, i would totally go for that. how long have you been taking the doxy? i took that for years and it really worked, but taking antibiotics for long periods of time, imo, not good for the health. i read somewhere online that there is a type of acne that results, primarily in women, from long term antibiotic use. Gram-Negative Folliculitis. might be what i have, but i don't really know. my derm just calls it acne, then we talk about vacations (one of my fave subjects!) and home improvements and stuff like that. i can be kinda scatterbrained sometimes. imo, the tane, truly a last resort, but it has been really working for me. not pleasant, i'm itchy a lot now, weird, hair kinda dry, sick all the time (but i have a kindergartener at home so some of that is to be expected), and am getting sunburns for the first time in my life, but my skin is looking so much better. everytime i see someone i haven't in awhile they comment on it. slightly obnoxious, but so much better than when i was looking bad and they wouldn't say anything, just stare or look away, you know how it goes. they either can't not look or can't look at all, but they can't seem to just look ya in the eyes. i hated that.

anyhoo, enough of my blather, i know i go on and on. realsad, you really should see a derm asap. best of luck to you! ali
Del and Ali-
Hey girls. I'm sorry for the depressing post, lol- I am such a downer, huh? Lately, yeah. I mean.. It's just really hard to feel this way, and not be able to look people in the eye ...or enjoy conversations... or let people touch your face... ..or wear your hair up ....or wear certain shirts because you have a breakout on your arm/shoulder/back. It's disgusting, and it's not a way to live. Thanks for all your kind words, and support. I really appreciate it, and it makes me smile.

I had someone at work the other day ask if I ever modeled. It was a confidence boost, but they said "No?? Oh you should! Why not?" and I was like "Well, my skin...." AWKWARD. And previous to breaking out, I had been scouted twice. I get asked that all the time, but now it's much less frequent. I was planning on applying for America's Next Top Model (tv show) but acne ruined that plan..so yeah. Depressing doesn't quite do my feelings justice.

I'm definately afraid of Accutane. I've done tons of research on it, and I Know my insurance company does not cover it- which is just freakin' awesome cuz I need it, and my insurance is worthless apparently. That, in itself, is depressing.. cuz I don't think I can afford it.

So, yeah.. I basically am at a really awful point in my life- so I dont know what to do/think/say anymore. I'm tired from all the worrying, thinking, etc...
Ali- *sigh* You made me feel alot better with that post. I don't know why, It just was comforting. Thank you.

Yeah, I definately think I would benefit from Accutane. I know my acne is caused by irregular shedding of my skin and oiliness. Which is what accutane takes care of. (Adding exfoliation to my regimen in high school completely cleared my skin, I'm almost 100% positive.) I stopped exfoliating with something grainy, and started using softer scrubs- and I believe that is what triggered my acne to reappear because it wasn;t exfoliating enough. (I never had ACNE, but as a teen, I got random zits here and there.. When I started exfoliating, I had beautiful skin for years.)

Now.. I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I decided to buy the same grainy scrub again because the company stopped making it, and now they have it again- and start using it with the retin-a micro because I have zero irritation from it. Low and behold, I started seeing results. Keep in mind I am on the retin a micro for 5 months, and most see results after 2 months. I saw nothing til the scrub was introduced. But, I just don't think that it will ever be 100% because of the oiliness in my skin. Retin-a helps a bit with oiliness but not enough. If I could get my skin shedding/oiliness under control, I think it would eliminate my problem. That's just my random input, tho.

I strongly believe some acne is bacterial (well, all is bacterial but some forms of it are very infected, while others are not. I never get whiteheads..Ever.).. Bacterial acne usually responds immediately to antibiotics and responds really well.(mine had almost no response to antis) Some acne is hormonal, and stops when someone starts a birth control pill. (I still get acne, and have been on the same pill 6 months. I also do not break out worse around my period, really- I break out all month. I have no signs of other hormonal problems.) And, Some acne is irregular shedding and oil..which I think is the kind that Accutane takes care of "permanently" in most cases. (I.e. it fixes the way the skin sheds itself and shrinks the sebaceous glands. If thats the only thing causing ur acne, ur pretty much cured. However, if you have very hormonal or bacterial acne, it may come back.) Does anyone think this is crazy or makes sense?
Deltoro,

I think it is wonderful that you are being pro-activ about accutane. It is a serious drug with many side effects if the right pre cautions are not taken. In fact, after reading your post, I completely related to everything you did prior to going on the medicine. I am a true believer of "holistic" medicine, acupuncture, nutrition, and homeopathy. I, as well, did some liver detoxes before and currently while on accutane. But, before I went on accutane, I tried it all to discover the culprit of my acne. I eliminated sugar from my diet because I discovered I am sensitive to it, I did every "natural" remedy (homeopathy, acupuncture, fasting to eliminate all toxins) , I had 3 sessions of the smoothbeamlaser, but my acne was persistent. It was actually worsened after the smoothbeam. I am on my 10th week of accutane. And I am happy to say that I am seeing wonderful results with tolerable side effects. My lower back bothers me from time to time, but that's all at the moment. My lips are not dry at all. Maybe once per week... they get really dry and exfoliate themselves. I was very nervous about accutane because my body is very sensitive. But, (knock on wood) I have been doing really well. I think it is, also, because my regimen is very strict.

1. I take Omega-3 fatty acid capsules (supposedly countereffects depression)
2. little sugar bc your teeth get dry and many people develop cavaties after accutane
3. Vit E capsules
4. I wash my face with all Dr. Hauschka products. My lips LOVE the lip care stick. I think this is why my lips have not been as chapped. Other chapsticks can be addictive. This line is a little pricey, but to me it is well worth it. It is all natural.
5. Humidifier in my room.
6. LOTS of water everyday
7. no drinking
8. nioxin for hair
9. I have a kick *** insurance plan through my job that covers acupuncture. so, i get it every few weeks.
10. I am on liver detoxes (homeopathy) to make sure everthing is being flushed.
11. Borage oil capsules
12. I am not drinking alcohol at all
13. I am a contact wearer. I wear my contacts to work (Complete Moisture Plus has been my solution). I ll put some refresh tears in my eyes before bed. DO NOT USE VISINE! Make you use natural tears.
14. Make up: Jane Iredale has a wonderful line of make up (again, a little pricey...but, well worth it.) It is the Purepressed Base with spf 17. It works really well esp on the red marks left over from your acne when your face begins to clear.
15. really good vitamins.

So, continue to be vigilant about your health (on and off accutane). You ll notice you re body will appreciate it!

Good Luck.
What kind of liver flushes are you on? I also am an avid naturopathy/homeopathy user but Im not sure what would work best while on accutane.

There are daily detox teas that I've been looking into this product:

Any suggestions?
