I know that when you are on certain medications, such as Minocycline, which I am on, you can burn a lot easier when you are in the sun.

Does this mean you can't go outside to tan at all? The other day I went outside to tan and used a tanning lotion that SPF4 because that's all I had, and I just got a little red. What can I use on my skin while I go outside and will still be able to get a tan? Thanks
I actually went to the tanning bed when I was on mino. Didn't have any problems, myself.

I believe they just recommend using SPF when going in the sun. However SPF4 is very minimal protection. I don't recall the # they recommend, but you may want to try an SPF of at least 15 for results.
I never had any problems with Minocycline and tanning or any of the topicals that are supposed to make your skin more sensitive to the sun. I seemed to tan just the same as always, although I don't use a tanning bed, just the sun, with no sunscreen.

It might be that people with naturally darker complexions (not people of color, just slightly olive complexions) have any easier time with it than lighter complexioned people. My sister uses the same meds I was on and I know her face gets red really easily, and her complexion is lighter than mine.

You'll just have to experiment and see what happens.
I took minocycline for a few months...from May-September of 2006. That summer I was very careful about wearing sunscreen when I was in the sun, never got sunburned or anything. But....the weird thing is I still have a VERY distinctive tan line from my bathing suit....7 months after the last time I was outside in it! I guess this is due to the minocycline. It's not really that big of a problem, but I'm beginning to wonder how long it will take these tan lines to go away....
