Same thing happened to me! I was using the baking soda method, and I was THRILLED with the results I was getting! My face looked unbelievable for about two weeks. Then all of a sudden I broke out in cysts all over my chin and even three on my cheeks (I never, ever, EVER break out on my cheeks!) I know the baking soda is supposed to bring infection to the surface, but from my research, in this case, the baking soda basically will just bring to a head any existing pimples you have - it shouldn't be causing a purge of the skin such as Accutane or Retin-A.

So I stopped the baking soda and now my face looks good. Gosh, I wonder why it does that? I guess all good things must come to an end, huh? :(

Are you doing the lemon juice thing? Drinking the juice of one full lemon spaced out throughout the day? I have been doing it religiously for a good month now and I must say I think it's helping. The baking soda screwed with it a bit, but now I am back to normal. Also, I am drinking a couple cups of hot green tea a day and 8 oz. of pomegranate juice. But I would really recommend the lemon juice thing! I have an appointment in a week with the derm to see if I can get on Accutane again, but as of right now, he is going to think I am absolutely crazy b/c I maybe have one zit and that's it - and I think I owe a lot of that to the lemon juice! :)
OH yeah your post reminded me, yes I am also getting 70% AHA peels (highest grade AHA peel available) and microdermabrasion treatments every two weeks...they haven't stopped my chin from breaking out now and then, but it has definitely evened out my skin tone... hmmm but I must say I was expecting a lot more out of the treatments considering it cost $800!

My skin is probably 90% clear right now.. but I want 100% clear, like the kind of skin I had right after Accutane four years ago! Have you been on Accutane? It worked so well for me, but at this point, I don't know if it would be worth all the side effects and major explosion of an inital breakout just to get rid of the few breakouts I am getting now. I am really torn on what to do, I guess I'll just have to wait and see what my derm suggests.

Okay well I need to pry myself away from this message board for a while ... it's so addicting!

Good luck with the lemon juice, keep us all updated :)

LOL it is addicting! I have never been on Accutane for a few reasons:

1.) I'm scared...lol

2.) My skin isnt bad enough (my derm. somtimes compliments my skin  ) so they wouldnt give it too me

3.) I flush so I'm afraid it might make me worse. Some people take a low dose to help flushing but others reported they became redder.

I will definitly keep you updated on the lemon juice thing...Did you get worse at all before it helped your skin?

ttyl :)
Cassie!

I am on my third day of the lemon thing and my skin looks pretty good! I dont know if the lemon is doing something, but I dont want to get my hopes up because probably tomorrow my skin will look like crap again.

I dont have any pimples, and my skin looks more even :D

I also havent had any sweets, which i think is contributing to it as well...

I'll keep you updated on the Lemon...I hope everything is going well with you too! :) :D
Hi Xismybaby!

I'm so happy that it seems the lemon juice is working for you! That's great! Just stay optimistic and keep up with it and I hope things get even better for you. How exciting! :bouncing:

I wish I could say the same about my own skin, I've been breaking out really bad lately on my cheeks... I never break out on my cheeks! I think it may have something to do with the fact that a couple weeks ago, I strayed from my no sugar diet and just went buck wild at the grocery store and bought a couple boxes of Gushers and some packs of Little Debbie brownies...big mistake! I think I am paying for it now. :nono: I got my AHA peel two days ago, and for some reason, this peel penetrated my skin a lot deeper than usual and reacted badly with my skin. So now, I have what looks like rugburn splotches (feels like rugburn too) all around my temples and then on random places on my cheeks  My face seems to be just one never ending saga, lol!

I have my derm appt. tomorrow, finally! I'm going to beg and plead for Accutane. If I start it up within the next couple weeks, I should be getting pretty clear by the time classes start mid-August. Let's keep our fingers crossed! :)

Anyway, again, I'm glad the lemon juice is working for you, I really am happy that your skin is on the mend! Just be persistent with it and make sure to do it every day. (I've skipped a LOT of days lately, I don't know if that may be part of the reason I broke out, but just to be on the safe side, I would keep it up everyday if possible.)

Good Luck, and yes, keep us updated!

Thanks Cassie  ,

My skin is not as good as it was yesterday, but its still much better :) ...I had a tiny bit of sweets yesterday and I think thats what made my skin a little worse.

I'm sorry to hear about your new breakouts :( The sugar and the AHA mostly likely did it to ya...

Why are you getting the AHA peels done (if you dont mind me asking)?

Do you have bad enough acne to be prescribed Accutane? I dont know that much about Accutane because I'm just to scared to use it. The only reason why i'd really use it, is for my awfully oily t-zone  . Just be careful with the stuff...

I am going to continue to drink the lemon water. How much do you drink a day? I'm only drinking 1 glass...

I really hope your skin clears back up...Stay away from those sweets :nono: ...lol

I'll talk to ya soon...

Hi again

I've been getting the AHA peels and microdermabrasion to clear up my uneven tone, some light red marks, and to just give my face that youthful glow that I'm always talking about, lol. If anything, I think they have made me break out more, b/c my skin wasn't that bad before I started messing with it.

I would say my acne right now is mild, borderline moderate though. It used to be just concentrated around my chin, but now it's just moving up my face onto my cheeks and I've noticed I keep having to use more and more makeup to make myself look decent. I've been on Accutane before, about four years ago, and it cleared me 100%! I didn't even have to wear an ounce of face makeup for an entire year, I love the stuff. So I'm hoping I can get on it again and hopefully this second course will clear me up permanently. I've heard about Accutane being prescribed for oiliness, but it does cause a major "initial breakout" which, if your biggest problem is oiliness I don't think it would be worth it to have your skin purged like that and have the possibily of being left with lots of red marks that you didnt have before.

As for the lemon water, I've recently switched up how I've been doing it (again! haha). Now I drink half a lemon squeezed into hot water in the morning, before breakfast. Then around mid-day into evening I drink the other half squeezed into a cup of hot green tea.

Thanks for the well wishes, I'll let you know what happens tomorrow at the derm

Talk to you soon :)

I wonder if putting the lemon in hot water is better? Hmmm...very interesting..lol

I already had my lemon water today...I might have another glass, maybe i'll put it in hot water.

I am not going to try Accutane...and since you said it causes a major initial breakout...I"m DEFINITLY not tryin it!! ...lol :D

I hope your derm appointment went well...keep me posted :)
Hi xismybaby!

Well, the derm didn't put me on Accutane...said my acne wasn't bad enough. I was pretty upset, so he told me in the meantime he would give me Ampicillin and in three months if I still really, really, want to go on it he will give it to me. (sigh.)

I got the lemon juice in hot water idea from people that have been coming to eat at the restaurant I work at. Apparently, the new trend with health conscious people is drinking a cup of hot water with their meal. Supposedly it aids in digestion. I remember reading on this board that healthy digestion and a healthy colon can help your skin, so I decided to try it out and add my lemon juice to it. If this really helps, I'm not sure, but it can't hurt to try! :)

Hope all is going well with you :)

I hope the ampicillin works so you dont have to go on accutane :) ....I think Accutane should be your last resort (everyones last resort).

I'll try the lemon in hot water and see how it goes..My skin isnt that good anymore because I had sweets (ice cream and cookies) 2 days in a row :(

Take Care and keep me posted
