hey! first of all good luck to both of you. i was wondering if i can ask what dosage you are on? i will be on a similar course as lala's 1st....oct-march ( 6 months long ) at 40mg possibly bumped up to 60mg next month due to i have been having a slow response. nothing is really dry, and my acne has gotten better, but im not where my derm things '' i should be'' at the start of my 3rd month. anyways, i wanted to ask, drinking whole milk helps absorb the medication? and also, do you have to drink it all day, or just a glass when you take the pill? and did the red marks fade during after your 1st treamtment? sorry for all the questions! lol thanks a lot! :)
That was great Al! I commend you on your wonderful ability to write like a pro...or a talk show host, which ever you prefer. And if you shrivel up into a prune anytime soon, call me, cause then I might get worried about you and need to come to the rescue...I should've expected that you would tie Jessica Simpson into this Accutane some how, lol, but I never knew that she was on Accutane. I just always saw her on those Proactiv infomercials. I might give her a quick call and ask how her experience went. :) I don't think your pharmacist understands the dosage that you're supposed to be taking, cause with 40 mg pills there's no possible way for you to be taking 20 mg pills the 1st 2 weeks. and if they were right....80 mg is way too much for you to be taking for you only be on it for a few days. 80 mg is usually necessary if your body is slow to respond after about 4 to 5 months, or prob. if your acne is more severe. I'd call and ask them if they know what they're doing, lol..but maybe not exactly in those words.-- I'm very happy that you got some whole milk. I can only drink like half a glass of it cause it's so THICK, but if it does the trick...I'll all for it!

So it's my third day on Accutane, you wouldn't think that just after 3 days you would be able to notice a difference, but I have. Maybe it's cause I can tell when my body is doing weird things or because I've been through the treatment once before and know what is supposed to happen to my body during the process....or it could just be a psychological effect and nothing has really happened yet, lol. Anyway, psychological or not, I went to bed last night with barely any visable white heads and woke up with about 3 ready to explode. The weird thing about this Accutane is that zits appear quickly, get infected quickly, and I get rid of them quickly. Although derms say that you shouldn't pop your zits unless they are on the verge of busting :nono: ...I just can't help it, but I need to work on that cause if I pop them too early than I'll get scaring on my face, and that isn't very fun. Not to mention that my face felt dryer this morning, so I loaded up on the moisturizer, my nose was very dry, and my elbows and legs were dry this morning as well, so I lotioned them up. I'll probably bust out my humidifier tonight and get it ready for action. That noise of the humidifier always got on my nerves, but you learn to get used to it and become immune to the loud noise after a few weeks. My back and chest are still 100% clear. My back does feel a little dry right now, but hopefully I won't have any zits on my chest or back during my 2nd round of Accutane, since they were successfully taken care of during my 1st round. This whole process still makes me hesitant..but we just have to think positive no matter how miserable we might get during this process. you and i (and every other Accutane user) just have to remember that in 5 months, we'll never have to deal with another zit again! :bouncing:

This group is going really well and I get excited whenever I get on healthboards to see if we have any new threads. I'm glad that we're in this together!! love u alli! **I'm comin' down on tues. after my bball game, by the way. and i'm staying til friday!! ahh!!!
Hey all!

Fabulous idea.

Quick Summary - I'm Alex, 24, male and suffering with moderate, but persistent body Acne (none on the face). On day 15 of a 20mg daily treatment (will increase to 40mg in 2 weeks) of RoAccutane (the name for the drug in Europe).

Currently not been struck down with terribly dry skin or an initial breakout. However, my scalp is tender and burning which is really irritating my unfortunately.

Biggest Accutane fear? Hair loss! Praying this won't happen (anyone know if the tender scalp thing is a sign of impending Hair loss?)

Cheers and lots of well wishes to me fellow Accutane patients!
Hey Al!,That facial thing sounds like a wonderful idea! That'd be tons of fun and a good way to celebrate the end of our Accutane treatments and suffering for 5 months, lol.

I'm on Amnesteem too but it's the exact same thing as Accutane, except that it's the generic brand and cheaper, but it performs the exact same way as Accutane does. I'm just gonna say Accutane when talking about it on here, since they are the same thing and some people might get confused if they read this and don't know what Amnesteem is. But just for you to know, if you go to the pharmacists and they try to offer you something else that doesn't start with the letter 'A' and says that it works just like Accutane...DON'T BUY/TAKE IT! My derm. told me that some pharmacists will tell u just to buy this different brand and it's the same as Accutane, but it's really not. So the Amnesteem is okay (good with the letter 'A'), but nothing else besides Amnesteem or Accutane.

I went to Target to get a humidifier filter for my humidifier but they didn't have the right filter for my model, so I'll have to go to the exact Target where I bought my humidifier last year and see if they have the right filter for my model. I need to get it goin' cause that humidifier really makes a difference on how dry my skin is. This morning I moisturized my face 3 times and it was STILL dry! This cold weather doesn't help much either.

I've been using Dove Day Time moisturizer on my face. It worked well for me last year, and i used a Dove face cleanser also, and it was good and didn't dry me out too badly or make my skin burn...i'll have to go get me another bottle of that stuff. I read about a lot of people using the Cetaphil, so if you think it works well for you, than I might try that as well. I just use the Dove products because Hea's mom said they worked well for Tyler when he was on Accutane. Hea is actually on Accutane right now, so she could get on and write on our support group!

I haven't seen much difference between today and yesterday. I feel my lips getting dry as I progress in my treatment. I do remember from my first round of Accutane that I couldn't go ANYWHERE without some sort of chapstick and keeping them moisturized at all times. They'd get so dry sometimes that they'd just peel off and look/feel horrible. The Aquaphor is really awesome, so if you haven't gotten a tube of that stuff, then u really should, Al!

Well, I'm bout to go watch a movie w/ my cuz,but I'm not sure if I'll be able to write anything tomorrow because of my FULL day of basketball starting at 10:30 AM and ending at 7:30 pm...consisting of both practice and a basketball game, with eating with the team in between. I'll see you either Tuesday night, but probably Wednesday when I'm in town. I can't wait! We need to have a sleepover! love you al!!

*Keep on writing your comments or questions about Accutane and become apart of La and Al's Support group!! ;)
Hey everyone! I don't have much to report today. My skin isn't dry yet, and my headaches haven't come back. I'm doing very well so far, and I pray I will continue to do so. I love you all!

Keep those posts coming!

Hey La! Where have you been? I missed your post today. I hope all is well for you. Love you bunches!
Hello Alex!!! I may have some comforting news for you! :bouncing: I did a little research, and this is my conclusion - take it for what it's worth. I think it makes a little bit of sense. Ok, when a person begins Accutane, this powerful drug goes to work right away! One of the big effects it causes is definitely dryness. Dryness is closely associated with dandruff. Dandruff can in many cases cause the signs you write about. One factor that aggrivates dandruff is COLD, DRY weather. Not only are you, Alex, experiencing the dryness from your Accutane, but also the weather right now is adding to the drying effects by it being cold! These two factors may be escalating your already sensitive scalp. Did you follow all that? I hope so. Now continue to follow for just a minute. The reason I believe some people have hairloss on Accutane boils down to the dryness issue. In my research, I've discovered that this dry scalp leads to hairloss. It makes sense to me. My recommendation is to use 1% Nizoral Anti-Dandruff shampoo. This should soothe your scalp. Also, grab some Tea Tree Oil to rub onto your scalp. This may do more for it than even the shampoo. Lastly, grab some vitamin E gel caps. They are natural moisturizers and will work from the inside, out to compliment the effects of the shampoo and tea tree oil. Use the shampoo as directed on the bottle, then when you get out of the shower, rub a small amount of tea tree oil onto the infected area. Take 400 IU of Vitamin E three times a day. If you don't notice any improvement over the span of a week, then do see your dermatologist. I hope this helps you! Let us know your progress and if you have any other questions/concerns. It has been a pleasure! God bless!

My update: I took my fifth 40 mg pill today. My skin actually looks a little better, but I'm still waiting on the big breakout. Maybe it won't come. My skin has a mind of its own. I'm not even dry or experiencing any side effects thus far. I'm still praying!
Hey Al! feels like a long time since I've been able to get on here and give my updates. With basketball and then coming down to see you and everyone else in Jasper, I've had no time. But I had an awesome time at Opryland and gettin' to see you!! Love you Al!

Since I wasn't able to have my humidifier while i was out of town, I experienced more dryness than normal and had to moisturize my face three times, before it was somewhat free of dryness. Al, do you think that my face is still dry after moisturizing just because it's so cold outside and I'm on Accutane...or my moisturizer isn't strong enough? I'm using Dove Day Time Moisturizer...but if you aren't dry on your face at all, than maybe I should switch to the Cetaphil.

I've almost come to the point where I can't go anywhere without some sort of lip moisturizer/chap stick. I've been lathering up all day, but haven't quite gotten to the point where my lips are severely chapped and peeling masively. fun. I bought some aquaphor, but I can't seem to find it, so I'll probably have to go back to Walgreens and get some more.

Also, I just checked and I've been on my Accutane for a week and 2 days, and surprising, my face appears to be reducing the amount of zits, instead of increasing. I know that the zits start popping up at an unbelievable pace between 2 and 3 weeks, but I'm hoping that since I am on my 2nd round of Accutane that the huge amount of zits that are expected to pop up isn't as big as I experienced during my 1st round of the medicine.

As my process of my 2nd round of Accutane continues, I remember all of the side effects that I experienced during my 1st round of Accutane. After several months, I remember having blotches/scabs on my arms because my skin was so dry and ,therefore, I had to moisturize constantly. However, during this round, my elbows seems relatively dry compared to how they normally are. I don't remember my elbows ever being dry during my 1st round. I'm also hoping that knowing that fatty foods helps Accutane work better will help my 2nd round be more successful than the 1st.

I just pray that this round will be successful and the LAST time I'll ever have to use Accutane or any other acne treatment. I constantly have to tell myself that I would rather be miserable with acne for five months, than miserable with acne for the rest of my life. It'll all be over soon!! :bouncing:
Hey La and all!!!! La, you know I was so tired when we got back, that I forgot to tell you bye! I was so out of it that I just jumped in my car. I'm so sorry. :(

Anyway, my skin seems to be doing better since starting the Accutane, but after I read your last post, La, I'm a little cautious. I saw that I'm supposed to begin breaking out at the 2 or 3 week mark. Oh no! Oh well, bring them on. They are being killed! I'm STILL not dry. Maybe I'm doing something right.

La, I have actually been using the Proactive moisturizer. It's been sitting in my bathroom not being used for a while, so I decided to give it a try. It has been working rather well for me. I still wash with Cetaphil. The cold, dry weather may have something to do with your face being so dry, but wouldn't mine be the same as well since I'm experiencing cold weather, too? I've been drinking water and taking vitamin E everyday, so maybe you should add the vitamin into your routine. I hope you get a routine that works well for you.

Alex, I told you wrong. Take vitamin E ONCE a day at 400 IU...not three times a day. I'm so sorry about that.

Folks, my face should really be something to write about in 6 days. I will be taking 80 mg a day. I'm expecting to have much more detail and questions to write about.

I hope everyone has a very safe and happy holiday season! God bless you all!

Scripture of the day: Ephesians 6:11
Hey Al and All!

I haven't really experienced much difference since I posted the other day. My face is still dry, my lips are still chapped, and I'm still amazed that my acne seems to be clearing up rather than breaking out more. I haven't reached that 2 to 3 week period, but I'm completley prepared for my face to go from improving to bam! zits galore..hopefully that will NOT be the case. As to my moisturizer, I think I'm going to go to the drugstore soon and try the Cetaphil moisturizer since I've seen that many Accutane patients use it. My Dove moisturizer is great when it's not winter and when I'm not on Accutane and completely dried out,but right's not workin'. I did switch from my Neutrogena face wash to the Cetaphil face wash. I like the Cetaphil better because it doesn't feel like my face is shriveling up after I wash my face and it also makes my skin feel softer.

Al...I'll probably look into getting some Vitamin E pills since you aren't experiencing any dryness on your face. Now if only I could get some ProActiv moisturizer lol. I think there might be a ProActiv stand in our mall, and maybe they have it!! I might check that out next time I'm at the mall...I know that you were tired after we got back from opryland. I only sat in my car and cried because you did not say good bye... lol just kidding! i was so tired too...and i had to drive 2 hrs back to k-town the next morning and go to dollywood w/ the fam. lol. but i hope i get to see you soon!! before we go get those facials! :D Love u!!

Erin... Yeah the whole thing about acne being hormonal drives me crazy! My derm. said that i probably have stronger hormones obviously cause my acne will never completely go away and also because i had to go on birth control for irregular mentrual cycles. But fortunately i've been regual without the birth control for several months now, so maybe my hormones have calmed down a bit. The moisturizer and makeup thing is completely okay. If it weren't for moisturizer I don't know what i'd do! I use Neutrogena make up because it doesn't clog your pores and it helps clear up the acne. During my 1st round of Accutane, my derm. asked me what make up i was using and I told her Neutrogena and she said that Neutrogena was good. So I only use Neutrogena when it comes to foundation, concealer, and powder. I also use a loose powder because I read in a magazine that did a special about "Covering up Acne" that loose powder helps the make up proportion more evenly and covers up the zits well. Many derm. recommend the line of make up products that might be offered at your dermotologist's office, but the Neutrogena is a great make up especially when you have acne.
In most Accutane cases the severe acne is supposed to start up around the 2nd or 3rd week, like you've already said, and it usually lasts til the 3rd month. After the 3rd month, your acne should start decreasing as the days go on and appear less and less. During my first round of Accutane, I was not at the point where my Derm. thought I should be and my acne did not start clearing up until around the 5th and 6th month(my body was slow to respond, so my treatment was extended) and eventually was completely gone about a month after I had ended my Accutane treatment. If you didn't read my very first post, my acne was gone for about 5 months and then appeared about this past Sept., so that's why I'm on my 2nd round of Accutane. Best of luck to you, and if you have any more questions...ask away!

Hey Suzy...when I was on Accutane my first round, i had PLENTY of side effects and do remember feeling less energetic and motivated probably because at one point i was doing 60 mg alternating with 80 mg. I'd def. go on the accutane for a 2nd round and mention the depression thing to your derm. Maybe she'll lower the dosage so you won't have depression and the treatment will still be as effective even though the dosage is lower. From what i read, most of your acne is gone from your first in my case on my back and chest...and a higher dosage won't be required, and you won't experience depression. I might look into that chemical peel treatment and ask my derm. what she thinks about it. I completely trust my derm. with her opinion on things, so hopefully she'll give me good/affordable options to get rid of red marks and scars when I'm done w/ my 2nd round. I def. learned from my 1st round that picking at pimples is a HORRIBLE idea and it only slows down the process, so this time round, i've been better at picking at pimples and only popping the ones that are about to explode. Thanks for your post about your experience and recommendations about getting rid of the marks and scars...and if you decide to go with a 2nd of luck to you!!

Good luck to everyone! Keep your heads up and don't get pessimistic about this process! We're all in this together!! :D
Yes using makeup is ok, I was also scared to use it, but I cleared up using Revlon colorstay everyday.

I think you MUST use moisturizing. I don't know how much I can stress that. PLEASE use it. Some days my skin was so dry that I had flakes all over my face.
It was embarrasing.

I also experienced those initial breakouts. They were not easy at all. One day my skin was almost clear and next day (literally, next day) I woke up with 8 big bumps on my face. It's the hardest part of the treatment, but it usually only last 1-3 months, so stay strong!!!
 Hey everyone! I'm sorry it has been so long since I've posted. It's just that I haven't experienced any differences yet, but since others have posted and asked questions, I will be happy to answer them to the best of my ability. (Oh, I began my 80mg a day yesterday, so I should be seeing some changes soon, hopefully for the best.)

Erin (hello and welcome!), I, too, understand the hormonal imbalance that causes the dreaded acne. I've been to an Endocrinologist, but he said my hormones were all normal. Who knows? Maybe it's something else in my body causing the acne. I do know that after my course of Accutane, I'm going to do a full body cleanse to rid myself of any toxins that may be built up in me, and to get rid of the Accutane in my system. As for the moisturizers and makeup, neither interfere with the efficacy of the medicine. PLEASE moisturize your face. A face heals better when it is moisturized, so please don't skip the hydration! Also, drink tons of water. I would recommend 10 glasses of distilled water daily. I use bare minerals makeup and I love it. It provides excellent coverage and when paired with bare minerals "warmth," it can add a healthy glow to your face. "True" also adds a nice shimmery, rosey glow. I don't know, hun, about the point at which the terrible acne is finished. I've read other posts that suggest the third month is the final "coming out" month, and the healing process begins. As far as cleansers, Cetaphil hasn't let me down. It doesn't dry out my skin, and it is highly effective at removing makeup...even my waterproof mascara! It is very gentle. I would love to try that Creme de La Mer moisturizer, but it is so expensive! I've read great reviews about it, but others say the less expensive lotions work just as well. I hope I've helped a little. I appreciate your post, and I hope to have more from you! God bless you in this whole process.

Hey there little miss Suzy! Welcome to our support group! I'm so sorry you experienced such lethargy! I would go on a second round, though, because the second time may be a little easier on you. Try to go for a walk outside, or do some kind of physical, but not stressful, activity to keep your mind and body fresh. This may help you feel more energetic. Also, eat healthier foods (but stay away from extra vitamin A). Try not to think about taking Accutane, either. Just try to block it out of your mind that you take it. Like, take your pill and immediately go do something else. I really do believe if a person allows themselves to dwell upon the fact he/she takes it, it will mess with his/her mind to almost cause some of these side effects. I'm not saying to ignore persistent signs or symptoms. By all means, tell the derm. of any concerns! Just to help ease the mind and body, though, treat taking the Accutane like taking Tylenol or some other drug. I hope this makes sense. If not, feel free to let me know. I'm sorry I haven't helped very much. If I can think of anything else, I'll definitely post it. Oh, you may want to look into certain vitamins to increase energy....VITAMINS...not like caffeine pills or redbull after redbull :nono: . God bless, you as well in your decision and the entire process! We welcome your posts.

Oh, and Erin, yes, I have experienced sores in my mouth. Around my lips on the inside has been peeling and feeling unusually rough. I slept with Aquaphor inside my mouth, though, and the next morning, the roughness was gone and I only experience mild dryness there now. (My tongue is very dry, though :p .)

La, how are you? I hope the process is going well for you! I miss you. Hay and I were just talking about you. I'm here at Freed visiting the Maddox family. I love you, and thanks for helping keep this support group going! God bless you, too!!!

All posts are welcome, so keep them coming. We are here to support and encourage everyone! We are all in this together. No one is alone!
Hey Al and everyone else!! I'm up here in Indiana at my aunt and uncle's house for New Years, so I hope that you all have a wonderful new year's tomorrow!!

Al...yeah, I was wondering why you hadn't posted in a while and that's awesome that you were at Freed...and u and hay thinkin' about me, lol. I think about you all constantly, lol.

Alright...well, I haven't really experienced any major changes lately. I did go to Walgreen's when I was in k-town a couple of days ago and bought Cetaphil moisturizer, Vitamin E, and a humidifier that puts out a light, cold mist. I had spent the night at my friend, Heather's, house the previous night and she's on Accutane as well and has the humidifier with a light mist and I loved it!! Especially when your nose is dry, then I just stick my face in the mist and breathe in. It's great, lol. But my face has def. improved on the dryness factor. I'm not dry at all on my face. Probably because of all the new products I just bought. I can tell a huge difference when I use the Cetaphil products, too. Oh Al, what is the I.U. on your Vitamin E? I bought the 200 I.U. and there was also a 400 and a 1200 to choose from, but I just got the 200.

I'm past the 2 week period of starting Accutane this past Wednesday. I haven't noticed a huge breakout, so i'm really thankful for that...but I could unexpectedly break out at any moment!! Ahh!! You can't really be surprised about anything on Accutane. But my hair has gotten less oily and I'm only washing it every other day so my head won't get dry. That's my fav. thing about being on don't have to wash your hair every day!! Right Al?? lol.
Oh nose and chin have way less blackheads than what I used to have. I remember on my 1st round of the med. my nose would be completely free of black heads and my nose would sweat because it was so clear. It was weird, but it felt good to not have any blackheads. Hopefully they won't come back during the rest of my treatment!

Alright, well that's about all the changes that I've experienced lately. I hope everyone has a Happy New Year!! I'll talk to you soon Al! Love you!!
Hey Al! I haven't seen you on here in awhile, I guess you haven't had any changes lately or been busy with ETSU. that's soo exciting, you'll have to tell me all about it and MAYBE i can come up and see u once u get settled! whoohoo... But I hope to read and hear from you soon! Love you!!

Okay, well I went to the derm. this past Tuesday for that monthly check up. She increased my dosage from 60 mg to 80 mg every day and said that I was doing well. I never experienced that 2-3 week HUGE breakout that the derm. warns you about and that I went through my 1st round of Accutane, so I was really excited about that. I just hope I don't jinx myself and wake up in the morning with a crazy acne face. But anyways...Al, I asked my derm. about taking Vitamin E...just to be on the safe side and my dad said to ask,also..and she said that was completely fine to take with Accutane and she likes Vitamin E, so I've continued to take it and I def. think it's helped with the dryness.
My lips are really chapped, they haven't started peeling, but just sitting here right now, they're irritating cause i don't have any chapstick or Aquaphor on them. Oh, my arms are really dry also. Not like flaky but I have these dry blotches of skin that sorta look like scabs but aren't noticeable unless you're like super close. So I'm having to lotion my arms and legs every morning so I'm not itching and my arms won't be so blotchy. My hair is less oily like I said in my last reply, and that's my fav. thing about Accutane! lol, sorta sad, but it's great not having to wash your hair every day. I get to sleep in an extra 25 min. every other day. :bouncing:
Since changing from Neutrogena face wash with Dove moisturizer and a humidifier that doesn't create a mist in the air (i don't know how else to refer to it lol) my face is WAY less dry then it used to be. I barely have dry skin on my face and i LOVE the Cetaphil products. So just so everyone knows, CETAPHIL FACE CLEANSERS AND MOISTURIZERS ARE GREAT. And the mist humidifier from Walgreens is awesome too. Sometimes I just put my face in the humidifier so my nose can get moist since it gets soo dry from the med. I hate waking up every morning and having to blow for like 5 min. cause it's so dry.
Okay, well so far so good with the Accutane. I'm really excited that my skin is looking a lot better and no breakouts. Hopefully I will continue at this pace and be completely clear really soon. I'm not self conscious about my acne on my face like I was about 1 1/2 months ago. It's awesome to not have to worry about people seeing your face and being like..dang she's got some acne. That's pretty exciting.
Alright, well Al, you best be getting on here soon and posting some sort of reply or I'll have to call or text you and fuss a lil. love u and i hope that you're doing well and everyone else too!! Keep your head up. :)
Hey La!!! Hello everyone! I hope you all will forgive me for not posting in such a long time. I've been terribly busy packing my room and all my belongings to move to Johnson City. I'm finally here and settled in, and so far I'm loving it. La, I really really want you to come stay with me because it does get lonely, but most of all, I love my apartment and all the decorations and I'd love for you to see it. Plus, this area is amazing! My first night here, it snowed about an inch, and when it snows, these mountains we have here are like something only seen on tv! They are so high that it's almost unreal to look at, and after the snow, the tops were all white...kind of like what people only see in paintings. Oh, it's just beautiful and there is so much to do around here! So, yes, please come up very soon. Let me know when you get a free weekend.

Ok, back to the whole reason for this thread! :D My face is actually looking so much better than it did before Accutane. I mean, I have good days and bad, but for the most part, I'm happy with what I see. I'm still on 80mg per day, but the only really dry part of me is my lips. I haven't washed my hair in about...well, it's been a while, I'll just leave it at that. haha. It has been wonderful knowing I don't have to get up so early and go through that whole routine. I'm loving Accutane so far. I have no complaints other than the muscle pain. I can definitely tell that Accutane has effected that, but it's not unbearable. And yes, La, that vitamin E does wonders! I can't believe how well it controls the extreme dryness. Bruce told me that his mom used to pop those pills and squeeze the actual vitamin E oil out of them to use it as lotion. That may be a thought on those rough patches of your skin. I know what you are feeling there. I have those little rough patches on me, too. They aren't bothersome, but they are there. Yes, Cetaphil is great! It moisturizes while gently cleansing. And La, I've read that putting a small amount of lotion on a q-tip and sticking up your nose helps to relieve the dryness, so you may want to try that. I'm sorry you're having to blow your nose so long because it's so dry. I almost wish I had more exciting things to post, but then again, if it were to be exciting, then it would probably be because something bad is going on with the Accutane, so I guess no news is good news on this subject. Everyone just know that I'm loving it so far, and I, too (like La), am more confident now in my face than I was a month ago before Accutane. I've had no initial breakout and the ones I do get go away within 1-2 days.

I can't wait to hear from everyone. I wish we had more questions, but I suppose everyone is just making threads of their questions, so I'll venture out of this thread and maybe reply to others. I love you, too, La, and I can't wait till you come see me!! I'm only about 1 hour and 30 minutes from you! Also, I'm so very glad you are having a good round of Accutane. I'm glad it's going so well for you, and I hope it continues. If you need me at any time, you know my cell and my email. Have a wonderful week!
Hello Andertrack and welcome to our support group! As I researched the answer to your question, I found that in August 2005, the FDA updated a website and stated that vitamin A supplements should not be taken while on Accutane. Also, I read something that said the answer to your question could be found in the pamphlet that came with your Accutane. As vitamin A supplements are a much higher dosage than what you would find in most foods, I would recommend (as the FDA did) that you steer clear of the supplements, but eating other foods with small amounts of vitamin A would be ok. Now, keep in mind that certain foods are comprised of very large amounts of vitamin A (i.e. carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, etc...mainly the orange-colored foods) -- these I would suggest avoiding completely. I was watching a talk show the other day and one of the things mentioned was to eat pumpkin (like pumpkin pie filling) every day for glowing, beautiful skin. So, I marched myself down to Wal-Mart and found the can of pumpkin. I was incredibly excited because I thought not only would I be taking Accutane to rid myself of acne, but I could also be making my skin glow in the process. My excitement was shattered, however, after I read the nutrition facts. In that one can of pumpkin there were three servings. EACH SERVING had 300% my daily value of vitamin A. I'm definitely going to have to wait until after Accutane for my glowing skin. I hope I've helped you. My answer isn't very scientific, and I would suggest researching a little more on your own to maybe find more valuable information. God bless you on your journey with Accutane. I'm loving it so far!

My update: One month is over! I went to a different derm after transferring schools, and he decreased my dosage from 80mg a day (for 5 days) to 40mg a day every day (because of my size). My only complaint is my achey back. It bothers me, but not to an unbearable point. My derm knows, so I believe all is well. My face is continuing to clear up, and I can't wait until it's all over so I can get laser on my face or something to get rid of the dark marks and red spots so I can have baby skin. And I can't wait to eat my cans of pumpkin!!!! HAHA. I have dry lips, but it's so insignificant, I was reluctant to post it.

Hey La! I hope all is well with you! I miss you, and I'm really hoping your Accutane treatment is coming along how you want it. I miss you! Love you!

Thank you to all our posters. We appreciate your questions -- they make for an exciting thread! Keep them coming! God bless!

Sorry I couldn't come up this past weekend. I really wish I didn't have basketball and could've come..but bball will be over soon and I can come visit ya'll. :bouncing: Love you!!

My 2nd course of Accutane treatment is going EXTREMELY well! Especially compared to my first course of Accutane. During my first course I had acne everywhere and it slowly faded and wasn't completely gone til the end of my 6th month. However, I'm on my 3rd month of my 2nd course of Accutane and I barely have any acne on my face. My back and chest have been 100% clear during this course (the 1st course of Accutane took care of my back and chest completely). Right now I only have one pimple on my face and it is already scabbing over and drying up. I do have some red marks on my cheeks from my 1st treatment of Accutane, and I hope to take care of those marks when my treatment is over. But right now I just use green concealer on those spots and then use Neutrogena liquid makeup to cover up the concealer. I never really understood why they have green concealer. But my friend...Heather..told me that since green is opposite of red on the color scale that the green helps the marks to be less visible.
I anticipated a harder time on my 2nd round of Accutane just because my 1st round was so rough, but it has turned to be way better than i would have ever imagined. My skin is still really dry and my nose is the worst part. It is always dry and bleeds. Not like continuous blood flowing, but it is red after blowing my nose. ugh. I still continue to take Vitamin E with my Accutane and use my humidifier and lather up with lotion. My lips are def. less chapped this time around. They don't peel like they did a year ago. I'm still taking 80 mg a day and I go back to my derm. in about 2 weeks. This iPledge thing is a good idea just so it will help girls not become pregnant while on the med., but I just hope I don't forget to fill out the information and get online for that thing, or else I won't be getting my pills. AHH.
Alright..well I hope that everyone is handling their Accutane treatment well and I'm so excited that I'm more than halfway through my treatment with little to no acne. I can't wait for those facials Al!! Yeay! Good luck to everyone and keep posting!
