hmm im curious to know where did you read this study and if it is reliable or not. as i have heard/read the exact opposite. not to mention zinc levels go down during stress days (which some people clearly found out stressing was one of the major culprit of their acne). zinc can also inhibit the 5-alpha reductase which can stop or decrease the conversion of testosterone to DHT. zinc can also help produce delta-6 desaturase (D6D), which is the required enzyme to convert LA to GLA to make a path to the anti-inflamatory prostaglandin series 1. it's the same mechanism to convert ALA to EPA except it produces prostaglandin series 3 which is anti-inflamatory also.

i might also add that if a certain mineral/vitamin caused you to breakout, that doesn't mean that has been causing your acne, it could be a number of reasons why we get acne; it's a combination of things.
