A detox and diet change is probably the most effective way to cure your acne.

In order to be sucessful with diet and detox, you must first identify the cause of your acne. Is it hormonal? Is it caused by an allergic reaction? Is it an over toxic system? Judging from what you said, your acne seems to be hormonal.

Starting with a detox is always a good idea to wipe the slate. Natural detox programs can be found online, and premade detox programs are available from stores. I like Enzymatic's Whole Body Cleanse and Zand's Quick Cleanse premade detox programs. A natural detox that I strongly recommend is the grape fast.

After the detox, you will need to address the hormone problem that is causing your acne.

At this point, it is important to be sure all your organs are functioning at their fullest so that the body can handle hormones more efficiently. To do this, base your diet around natural, unprocessed and unrefined foods. Avoid processed sugars, flours, fats (esp. hydrogenated fats), and artificial chemicals. In addition to this, if you like to eat meat, it is essential to eat clean light meat like fish and poultry rather than the heavy high-fat meat like pork and beef.

This creates a foundation and an environment for the hormonal acne cure that I'm about to talk about.

Someone above mentioned evening primrose oil as a herbal remedy. Evening primrose oil will help acne, because it contains fatty acids that will benefit acne, however flax oil is the more powerful essential fatty acid conatining oil.

Flaxseed oil contains alpha-linolenic acid, which the body needs in order to function at its fullest. Alpha-linolenic acid is excreted by the skin and produces a more healthy sebacous oil. More importantly, though alpha-linolenic acid is converted by the body into EPA and DHA fatty acids, which can then be used to control excess hormones.

Flaxseed oil dosage:
It is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL that you take flaxseed oil every single day to maintain clear skin. You will need to take between 3 and 6 tablespoons of flaxseed oil per day. If you prefer to take oil in capsules, fourteen 1000mg capsules equals one tablespoon. This adds up very quickly, so it is much more cost effective to take oil in liquid form. Start with 3 table spoons per day, and if you don't see results within two weeks, increase dosage.

If you are concerned about the safety of flax oil, don't worry. The only problem the oil can pose is the calories, but because the oil is unsaturated, the fats are healthy and are more readily used by your body than saturated fats found in other products.

Remember, flaxseed oil is the one essential part of an acne regimen that must be continued every single day, and the needed dosage must be met every single day.

Additional Herbs that help with acne:

Saw Palmetto - contains beta-sitosterol which inhibits the alpha-5 reductase enzyme that converts testosterone into the more reactive dihydrotestosterone. These androgen hormones are what might be causing your acne, and saw palmetto helps most hormone cases.

Milk Thistle- protects the liver so the liver can function more efficiently. This allows it to manage hormones more effectively. Milk thistle also benefits the skin. This herb must be cycled. I recommend 2 weeks on 1 week off, or 5 days on 3 days off.

Echinacea - Boosts the body's immune system to help fight infections, including acne infections. This herb must be cycled. I recommend 2 weeks on 1 week off, or 5 days on 3 days off.

Aloe Vera - When taken internally, aloe vera works at improving the overall health of the body, especially the intestines, which improves the digestive capabilities of the body. Poor digestion is also a cause for acne. When applied topically, we all know that aloe vera helps the skin heal. It reduces inflamation, and is mildly antibacterial.
