Well, before you go and say "no" to Accutane, hear me out. I am a former Accutane user and was on it for about 8 months. I totally agree with you though because when my derm gave me the Accutane booklet, I totally freaked out: once a month blood tests (I thought "no way!"), a chance not being able to get pregnant easily (well, I was 17 at the time so that wasn't a big deal to me AT THE TIME, 2-3 yrs later i'm still not ready for kids, but I realize you are 28 so maybe the time is approaching for you), also, the so called "serious" side effects (that totally knocked me off of my chair - my mother was worried also - attempt suicide etc..). So believe me, I felt the same way when I read the booklet. Let me start with the blood tests. It really isn't all that bad. You get really used to the fact of having your blood taken every month. Unless you are petrified of needles, the blood work every month is no big deal. Now, the pregnancy issue, I'm really not an expert on this so for me to give you advice on it would be wrong. The best advice I can give you about it though is to talk to your derm about it. Now, the "badddd/scary" side effects. Even though it is a possibility of experiencing these, it rarely happens. I can tell you from personal experience of being on this pill that the WORST side effect I had was a bad mood swing here and there. Also, expect your lips to get really dry. At least mine did - I got some of that Burts Bees Wax lip stuff for the daytime and for the night, I applied a perscription lotion-type thing for my lips. It really helped, I wish I knew the exact name of it. Another thing, I noticed myself being more tired than usual. It was hard for me also because I went to school full time and I had to keep up with my studies. I'm proud to say I got through everything and graduated with honors but I had a lottt of sick days lol.

Let's see, what else can I tell you....I'm sure your doctor will recommend a small dosage and then she'll work your way up to a higher one. At least that is what my doctor did.

If you have any more questions please feel free to post them, I'm more than happy to try to answer your questions. Good luck and keep us posted! :)
