1.Proactiv (used it for 4 years and it barely kept my breakouts under control, however, it made my skin VERY dry.)

2.Tea tree oil (didn't break me out but didn't help)

3.Purpose cleanser (seemed to make my red marks worse)

4.Neutrogena on the spot (made me HORRIBLY dry)

5.Benzamycin (Made me worse and again, made my skin very dry, red and flakey)

6.RetinA (for spot treatment of cysts, this is fine, however, when I used it all over my skin was so dry I couldn't even smile without it cracking)

7.SkinClean (decent cleanser but made my skin very oily and caused cysts. I think this would be a nice cleanser for those who are not acne prone)

What HAS worked...

1.B5 along w/ vitamins A, C, E, Zinc, fish oil, B50 complex

2.Drinking more water and less diet drinks and juice

3.Cetaphil cleanser

4.Total Effects moisturizer

5.Carley's clear and smooth twice a week as exfoliator

6.Clindamycin topical gel twice a week

7.Queen Helene's mint julep mask

8.Alesse bc pill
Did NOT work for me:
Murad Skin Care Line
Differin (I only used this for 2 months and it made things worse, but from reading other posts, I probably should have tried using it longer)
Various 5-10% Benzoyl Peroxides (10% worked fine in high school, but is now too harsh for my skin - BTW, I used Zapzyt 10% in High School with much success)
Neutogena "Deep Clean" Cleanser
Most cleansers labeled things like "acne wash"
St. Ives Apricot Scrub
Witch Hazel
Stridex Pads
Anything else containing alcohol
Neutrogena Alcohol-Free Toner
Biore Daily Scrub (way too gentle of an exfoliator for me)
Birth Control Pills - Ortho-Tri Cyclen (gained 10lb and got worse zits over a 3 month period)
Quitting Smoking/Drinking
Eating healthier and exercising/working out (Body for Life - although I did lose 20lb!)
Crying and obsessing over my skin! (probably made it worse)
Over-Picking!!! bad, bad, bad!!!! Red marks....

Kinda Worked (a combo of these cleared me 90%):
Neutrogena On-The-Spot (applied all over face)
Purpose Bar Soap
Apple Cider Vinegar as an astringent before applying BP
Topical Scrubs - plain white sugar, baking soda - these are ok, but I would definitely suggest a BHA
Milk of Magnesia as a facial mask (although when I used it too often, i.e. every day, was too drying)
Clindamycin (this worked great to make zits go away faster, but did not prevent them from coming - I put it on before BP)

What I'm doing now:
(seems to be working!!! - done for 2 weeks)

a.m. and p.m.
Cetaphil Cleanser for Oily Skin
Paula's Choice 2% BHA Lotion (flaky skin for the 1st 10 days with small initial breakout)
Paula's Choice Blemish Fighting Solution

occasionaly (2-3x a week)
steam face 5 minutes then apply
Queen Helene's Mint Julep Mask or Milk of Magnesia

Daily Vitamins (taken with food): (done for 6 weeks)
7.5-10g B5 (3-4 (2.5-3g) doses)
Synergy from NSI Women's Multivitamin (8 pills is the daily dose, so I take 2 pills 4x/day)

Right now, I mainly have leftover red marks. I only have 2 active blemishes after following this routine for 2 weeks.

I'm about to start on the Alpha Hydrox Extra Strength 10% AHA Oil-Free Formula. I've read many posts that recommend this to get rid of red marks and make pores smaller. I will use that in the p.m. and the 2% BHA in the a.m. I'll let everyone know how it goes!
