Here's an update for everyone.

I'm starting month 3 of accutane. I went to get my blood test on Saturday and now the area where she poked me is black and blue and it hurts. I've heard of that happening with blood tests but until Saturday I'd managed to get through it without any problems. Oh well, it's worth a little pain to be rid of acne.

My face is looking OK. My breakouts now are very tiny whiteheads that are easily popped and heal within a couple of days. Right now I've got about 4 or 5 healing ones on the right side of my face (on the cheek), one healing one on my nose (that one sucked!) a couple on my forehead healing and about 2 fresh ones on my neck that seem like they'll be gone in a week or two.

I saw my derm this morning and he is upping my dose to 60 mg a day from 40. Now I have to take a 40 at night and a 20 in the morning. No problem, except the 20 costs the same as a 40! More money but it will be worth it if this fixes me. I also asked him about little tiny bumps on my forehead that aren't going away and he said it's comendial acne (???) and that it's not a big deal, most adults get them on their forehead and it's not a big issue. He said the more the accutane kicks in the less of those I should see but he gave me 3 or 4 "sample" tubes of Differin to use on my forehead. He said to use it once every other day or so and it should help fix those.

So, other than not looking forward to getting another blood test done in 3 weeks, everything is fine. Not really experiencing any side effects from the accutane any more except dry lips. Even the dry skin I had on my face isn't nearly as bad as it was last month or the month before. Things are going good and I still think accutane is the best choice I've ever made.

More updates later.
Well I've been on 60 a day for a bit now and so far the only thing I'm really noticing is dry skin. A couple of old breakouts that were healing got red and bled a little as the dry skin came off, but that was 3 or 4 days ago and now they're back to being pretty much healed. So far I've got about 4 or 5 really tiny ones on my forehead (along with about 10 or 15 little skin colored bumps that I'm using Differin for), maybe 3 total healing ones on the right side of my face, 3 or 4 healing ones on my chin/goatee area, and maybe 2 or 3 healing ones on the left side of my face. When I say healing I mean it's hard to notice unless you look directly at it.

The Differin seems to be making quite a difference on my forehead. Although I haven't had much dry skin up there, it seems to be forcing those little skin colored bumps to the surface and its easy to get rid of them after that. I went from maybe 30-40 of those bumps to about 15 tops now, along with 4 or 5 tiny healing zits. I'm very happy about my forehead and hope it's fully clear by the new year.

So I have to say I'm very happy about the way my face is looking. I have to go in for a blood test on the 12th of December, but this will be one of the first Thanksgivings I can remember where I'm not totally embarassed to see my family. And it's all thanks to Accutane - the miracle drug. Hahaha, I sound like a commercial for it. :)
