I hope I can answer your questions. Basically, lasers are divided into two categories: ablative and non-ablative.

Ablative lasers injure and damage the skin. The Erbium laser and the CO2 laser are considered ablative lasers. There are a lot of risks involved with ablative lasers especially with olive or darker skin tones. There is a higher chance of skin discoloration and scarring.

Non-Ablative lasers do not damage the skin. The Cool touch laser is considered to be non-ablative. You need multiple treatments in order to receive results but the chance of skin discoloration is minimal.

My derm. gave me a bleaching cream two weeks prior to my laser treatments just in case.

I have heard of the V-beam laser but I do not know too much about it. There is a lot of info on the internet (use google).

Does your derm. have any other lasers available besides the one he mentioned to you? If not, he may be telling you to use this one becuz it is the only one he uses. Just be careful, I would hate for you to spend sooo much money on a laser treatment that might not give you the benefits that you are looking for.

But like I said, I do not know too much about this laser and I highly suggest you do your research prior to treatment. :)
