This is my first time posting here. I have had constant, moderate acne for 12+ years, but about 4 months ago, after going off bcp, I suddenly became afflicted with severe acne all over my face. Based on many negative experiences in my teen years, I don't trust dermatologists so I decided to treat the problem myself. I did a lot of research and came up my my own home-treatment regimen with benzoyl peroxide. I've been on it for 13 weeks and my skin is now ~95% zit free and my pores are clearer than they've ever been.

Unfortunately though, I am left with terrible scarring all over my face... luckily it's not pitted but even still, the red/purple spots left behind everywhere look just as bad as the original acne.

So today I went to see a derm to try to get a chemical peel or dermabrasion to get rid of the scars. Instead, though, the esthetician at the doctor's office just tried to talk me into using a $400 at-home product line call Obagi Nu-Derm. It basically consists of glycolic acid and hydroquione products which are supposed to be used "synergistically" with Retin-A to clear pores, improve skin texture, reduce discoloration, etc. But I'm pretty skeptical for a few reasons: 1)the products contain some oil; 2)I've had bad luck with Retin A in the past; 3)they say skin gets worse before it gets better (something I already went through with my benzoyl peroxide regimen and which I don't care to repeat); and 4)it's hard to trust someone who's trying to sell you something.

So after reading some posts here, I'm now thinking I could try to treat the red marks myself at home... I've read about a glycoic acid/hydroquione product called NeoStrata that might help with the red marks. Or I might just call another derm who *will* give me a chemical peel. I don't know what to do.

Has anyone tried the Obagi Nu-derm products? Anyone tried NeoStrata? Anyone had good results with chemical peels or microdermabrasion for post acne red-spot scarring? Anyone tried anything that helped with scarring WITHOUT causing new acne? Any advice at all would be appreciated!!!
