My Derm recommended a series of chemical peels done in a succession of one every three weeks. Depending on your skin type and pigmentation, glycolic peels, AHA, and salicylic peels are available.

The first peel in the series has the lowest % of acid and the last, hopefully has the highest. Peels kill two birds with one stone, they deliver a punch against the acne (acne what acne?) and do a great deal to diminish the red discoloring, permanently.
They also temporarily reduce pore size and improve overall skin texture. Your face will be as smooth as a baby's bottom.

I believe you can only have so many peels until your skin simply stops responding in terms of the red marks. I'm probably going to continue with peels as skin maintenence, since I've never responded so well as I have with salicylic acid. I've experienced, like a number of folks here the range of antibiotics, including accutane.

There is also no downtime. You have the peel and can fully function and go out in public without fear of upsetting pets and small children. Ingenious really. Perhaps you should consider consulting a new Derm, or even a plastic surgeon if yours doesn't seem to be cooperating.

I wouldn't go to a spa or to do this on your own, as I have heard the horror stories of skin burned to a crisp, worsening the condition. There's a host of information on the web regarding the different types of peels available to you, simply type in chemical peels on any search engine. Google for example gives a lot of unbiased information, you're sure to find what you need to arm yourself with when you go into your doctor's office.

Good luck and don't be afraid to ask for what you want, often doctors don't want to hear what we want, and when that's the case, you need to find a physician who's willing to sit down with you and tell you about all of the options available to you. Acne, like life is managed, not cured, but chem peels sure come bloody close.
