Here's the deal:

I am 19 years old and have had acne probably for about the last 8 or 9 years.

Earlier this year, in January, I made my first appointment with a dermatologist. The reason why I waited so long was because mainly on part of my father's insistence that there was nothing that could be done because my acne was hereditary. I had heard about that Differin stuff and Accutane and I figured that this prescription stuff has got to work better for me than anything I found over the counter.

The derm took one look at me and knew right away that Accutane was the only thing that would clear me up, and boy was he right.

I had all of the minor side effects (dry skin, scalp, lips, etc), and luckily didn't experience anything major. The derm put me on 40mgs twice daily and I weigh about 145 lbs. The derm and I agreed that an extra month of Accutane would be good to see if my back would improve further. It's looking the best it ever has and I hope it will continue to improve in the future.

The only thing I regret is being on Accutane without having insurance. Fortunately I had enough money saved up but I ended up spending over $3,200 over the course of taking this medicine. My prescriptions were $460 a month or about $7-$8 per pill, so like $15 a day.

Here are some pics, before and after:

I guess the only thing I can do now is sit back and cross my fingers hoping that my acne will not return. And for others just starting on Accutane: there is hope out there! Give it time and you'll be amazed at the outcome.
