Hi guys,
I was reading your posts on the Antibiotics vs. Accutane post and just wanted to say... ME TOO! I am married, 24 and developed hormonal cystic acne whilst on Alesse 28 last year. My husband also tells me he doesn't see the acne and tries to tell me that other people don't see it either, but when i talk to people i can see their eyes darting around y face from cyst to cyst to eyes to cyst. etc.

The number one thing, quit Ortho Tri Cyclen!!! If you can manage, quit all BC pills. This is all hormonal. I am on Accutane now, which is helping me in the short term. I still get monthly breakouts, but the cysts are much much smaller. This month I didn't even get any on my cheeks, just my chin. The ones on my cheeks are the ones that scar badly. ugh. But like I said, Accutane is only a short term solution. When I quit Accutane, my acne will come back if Idon't do something to address the cause of my breakouts. So- if you don't want to go on Accutane and you don't mind waiting 6+ months to see results, try switching birth control pills to ones that are anti-androgenic. This means your body doesn't process the Progestin as Testosterone. Too much testosterone causes women (and men for that fact) to have hormonal acne, usually cyclic and in the form of cysts on cheeks and chin. I am now on Yasmin. My gyn said only 30% of women on Orth Tri Cyclen get clear skin, and that clear skin is a side effect of all pills if you are in the 30% for which ever pill. OTC was just the first company to pay to have the FDA do testing and give them approval so they could advertise!

Anyway, my gyn said Yasmin has a different progestin, so i am hoping it will work. He said it could be up to 6 months before my hormones were totally in sync (NSYNC lol)with the new hormones. Another good pill is Diane 35 if you can get your hands on some. Also- if you don't want to go the BC pill route, what about Spironactone or Aldactone--(sp?) THese also fight testosterone in the body. Also- Saw Palmetto...

Ok, these are just ideas. Chevyfan, if you are really scared of accutane, don't take it because it sounds like you have the same type of acne as me, and i knowif i don't change my hormones the accutane won't do a d**n thing. Kperk, if you and your wife want to have kids soon, she shouldn't do the Accutane, but what about the Spiro or saw palmetto. She should get her hormones tested to see if she has a higher level of testosterone. I think and endocrinologist or a gynolcologist does that. Also- I tried Acnease, it won't work unless she is no longer on the BC pills.

Take care all!
